Kalaba Fit To Face Lesotho
Rainford Kalaba declared fit for Saturday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho after a two week injury layoff.
The Zambia and TP Mazembe midfielder has been nursing a calf injury that saw him miss his DR Congo clubs’ CAF Confederation Cup away match on Sunday in Mozambique against Liga Muculmana in Maputo.
Kalaba, who joined the Zambia camp on June 1 in Ndola, took part in full training under Herve Renard at Levy Mwanawasa Stadiumon Monday where they will host Lesotho in a Group D tie on June 8.
“We checked yesterday (Sunday) he seems to have recovered from his calf injury,” Zambia assistant coach Patrice Beaumelle said at the end of Monday morning training session.
“We checked with the Doctor yesterday and we had a light training yesterday and he seems ready to compete and play.”
Meanwhile, also in training was striker Jacob Mulenga from FC Utrecht in Holland who joined camp on Sunday night.
Renard now awaits four more players over the next 24 hours to complete his foreign-based call-ups.
Still expected are midfielder Nathan Sinkala and defender Hichani Himonde from Mazembe who are en route from Maputo.
The others are China-based attacking duo of James Chamanga and Christopher Katongo of Liaoning Whowin and Henan Jianye respectively.
