Zambia’s chase for a maiden World Cup place will be in focus this afternoon when they host Lesotho in a Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifier at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola 24 hours after Chipolopolo lost the top slot to Ghana’s Black Stars.
Ghana defeated Sudan 3-1 away to go two points clear of Group D with nine points and exert pressure on second placed Chipolopolo to go for nothing but victories in today and next week’s matches.
Herve Renard goes into this fixture without three key players in injured Stoppilla Sunzu, Rainford Kalaba and the suspended first choice goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.
But Renard has had time to shuffle his squad and fill the gaps ahead of the crucial match that will be the first of two with the later fixture against Sudan coming up at the same venue on June 15.
The two sides played to a 1-all draw in the earlier fixture in Maseru on March 24.
In goal, Renard is set to hand Power Dynamos goalie Joshua Titima another go at taking the number one shirt while at the problematic central defence Hichani Himoonde who is traditionally partnered by Sunzu will be alongside Kondwani Mtonga with Joseph Musonda and Davies Nkausu taking the left and right back respectively.
Nathan Sinkala and Mukuka Mulenga will have to command proceedings at the heart of midfield with Jacob Mulenga and Collins Mbesuma deployed as twin strikers.
Romania based Fwayo Tembo and skipper Christopher Katongo will complete the set up taking up the left and right flank respectively.
But Renard will have to plot carefully to thwart the threat caused by the Likuena trident of scorer in the first leg Litsepe Marabe, skipper Moithetri Ntobo and Tlaili Maile.
The two sides are looking to settle the contest that somehow ended inconclusively at least from the Zambian end in Maseru.
