Chris Katongo: The Pressure Is Not On Me But the Younger Players

Chipolopolo Boys captain Chris Katongo has said the pressure is not on him but the younger players to challenge for his position.

The evergreen captain rolled back the years on Saturday as he produced arguably his best performance since the African Cup of Nations triumph in Gabon last year.

The Zambia No.11 provided an assist for Jacob Mulenga’s acrobatic goal in the 36th minute before he nodded home a Chisamba Lungu cross in the second half to give the home side 2 goal caution before Jacob and Mbesuma added Zambia’s third and fourth goal respectively.

Asked if he felt the pressure to perform, the China based responded, “The pressure is not on me but the younger players to challenge for my position. I have achieved and its there for all to see. So mine is to keep going.

After the weekend’s performance, there’s already talk of the new guard taking over with Fwayo Tembo, Chisamba, Nathan Sinkala, Emmanuel Mayuka, Mukuka Mulenga and the injured Stopilla Sunzu seen as Zambia’s symbol of present and future.

Whether you like it or yes, the best team that Zed has ever produced is the Chris Katongo captained that brought the AFCON trouphy home followed by the Kalu lead which won the COSAFA twice. All those bygone player you like glorifying brought NOTHING.

Is it true that Chris Katongo whenever he scores he seals the scores for both his team and opponents? Evidently Chamanga dribbled the Keeper and failed to hit the target and it took Mbesuma ukunutula (neutralise) that score sealing due to his players …

Chris one thing l liked about you in Saturday’s game against Lesotho is that you were not selfish unlike the previous games you co-ordinated well with all the players thats why we had so many goals. Interchanging of passes was execellent avoid crosses

    HISTORY DOES NOT FAVOUR ZAMBIA
In 1993 govt could not pay Danish Coach Raold Poulsen so FAZ parted with him. Govt then gave Chipolopolo Ian Porterfield. Zambia was leading their World Cup qualifying group and were favourites for a slot. Their next game was against Senegal then a pushover (like Lesotho). Zambia needed to beat Senegal twice to put Morocco out of the reckoning. In a game that they could have won by a cricket scoreline Zambia drew with Senegal in Dakar. Senegal lost the return 4-0 in Lusaka. Zambia, needing just a draw, then had a crucial last game against Morocco in Rabat. They lost that game 1-0 to Morocco and Diramba. Substitute Senegal for Lesotho and Ghana for Morocco in the above narration for a taste of things to come. Zambia sacked bonati for herve renard. and in the 90′s Ian potterfield left zambia to coach ghana best club asante kotoko and after can 2000 herve left ghana as a physical trainer to coach zambia interestingly enough zambia drew 1-1 with lesotho and won 4-0 in ndola …..history is just repeating itself

Our captain has challenged the younger generation, our future stars…if there is no replacement for him then he is the best in his own capacity and so as patriotic zambians, true zambian fans let us embrace him and give him all the support we can. Felix thank you for highly viable contribution to the saturdays thumping of lesotho. Much respect to you sir and the rest of the team. And all the best in the forthcoming match.
