Prof. Clive Chirwa Retired, Investigations Called Off ‘Now to Be Paid Full Benefits’

Suspended Zambia Railways Managing Director Clive Chirwa has been retired in national interest.

Government has since decided to pay Prof Chirwa his full benefits as outlined in his five year contract.

And investigations by the ACC and the Auditor General in Prof Chirwa’s conduct at the railway firm which have since been called off did not find him wanting.

The Mark Chona led board was however found wanting after the investigations was concluded.

Highly placed sources at the Ministry of Transport, Communications, Works and Supply revealed that the decision to retire Prof Chirwa was arrived at two weeks ago.

The sources said Transport Permanent Secretary Muyenga Atanga who has been acting in the absence of Professor Chirwa has now been appointed Zambia Railways Managing Director.

“The Professor has since been communicated to and he has accepted the decision since they will pay him in full. He is walk smiling to the bank,” the source said.

When reached for a comment over the weekend, Professor Chirwa refused to comment on the matter.

“No comment sir, no comment,” he said.

The source added that Dr Atanga has been informed about the appointment and he is excited.

“It appears this was a well calculated move to hound out Professor Chirwa by some people within the system. The investigations found that he was clean but some powers within the system still did not want him to return to ZRL,” the source said.

In November 2012, President Sata appointed Professor Chirwa as Zambia Railways Managing Director after cancelling a concession agreement with the Railways Systems of Zambia.

Zambians really know how to frustrate the Qualified! I wish Prof Chirwa the very best, I do wish ZRL and Zambia at large well too. Now let’s see who is who, I foresee Prof Chirwa continually developing overseas (only a little disappointed with how his own people have treated him) as for ZRL and Zambia, shalande mukaimwena. Good luck.

Prof Chirwa please get that cash and come back to Europe were you are respected leave those bafoons. Let any Pf nincompoop go abroad and start telling people to go back and help zambia you will be insulted. Thats some cool free cash for the Prof full 5year salary at once, definitely his smilling. This is a lesson to Zambians in the diaspora, you will never be appreciated by your own. I suggest we make Zambia a holiday destination and nothing else. #smh

The problem is that man was appointed illigaly by the president. Terminating his contract without pay or finding him with a case to answer was going to backfire on the appointing authority hence the move to clear him of any wrongdoing and retire him so as to put the whole circus to rest.

Ba Soby, you have misread the situation. The man was legally appointed, bargained for his worth, his demands were granted and then his employers turned against him that he was living in a very expensive house and all that nonsense. Nothing out of his contract and yet again people’s brains have been twisted. At least am not. Ubukopo ka ZED, YABA its so annoying.

Prof. Clive Chirwa has been victimized and HEMCS should have allowed him to stay on so as to build confidence in the people with special skills who are in the diaspora.
This is a very unfortunate development. What was the use of having an investigation if not to clear either the board or the CEO?
This kind of mismanagement is unparalleled.

Prof. Chirwa imported civilization to Zambia but we just sent it back sealed as it came. Development doesn’t come free. You must spend. The British must be laughing at us for rejecting Clive. He is an asset in UK.

The stupidity that bedevils the corridors of power in Zambia has indeed struck a level gutless by any definition. Just how did we manage to put a devil, complete with his vampires, head of a Christian nation? It’s so embarrassing calling oneself Zambian these days, when we fail to prevail even over a lousy Janjaweed outfit out of Khartoum at home. Kauke faa luli kona mafelelezo a naha a!

Very sad development. Now the real truth will never come out. It is also a sad reflection on the government ans as a result of this it will be very difficult if not impossible to attract Zambians based abroad back home. The man had a vision for the company but alas his contract has been terminated.
