Explain ZNS Shootings, Lungu Ordered

By TEDDY KUYELA
DEPUTY Speaker of the National Assembly Mkhondo Lungu has ordered Minister of Home Affairs Edgar Lungu to issue a ministerial statement in Parliament before the end of the week, on the recent killing of two people by Zambia National Service (ZNS) soldiers in Lusaka.
This follows a point of order raised by Chembe member of Parliament (MP) Mwansa Mbulakulima (MMD) who wanted to know why Government has decided to keep quiet over the shootings.
Mr Mbulakulima also wants an explanation of the shooting of a Ndola-based soccer fan who was trying to buy a ticket for last Saturday’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan.
Mr Mbulakulima said the death of any individual should be treated as a sensitive matter and probed, regardless of who is involved.
Last Friday, two people were shot dead near the ZNS camp in Chongwe as officers were trying to demolish illegal structures built on ZNS land.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker has also ordered Mr Lungu to issue a ministerial statement next week on why some MPs who recently inspected the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) funded projects in their constituencies were harassed by the police.
This followed a point of order raised by Monze Central MP Jack Mwiimbu (UPND) who wanted to know why Lubansenshi MP Patrick Mucheleka (independent) was recently harassed by police officers when he went to inspect CDF projects in his constituency in Luwingu.
Mr Mwiimbu said it is sad and disappointing that the government has allegedly allowed police officers to start harassing and arresting MPs when the law allows them to visit their constituencies at any time.
He said it is unfortunate that Mr Mucheleka was told to get permission from the district commissioner before visiting his constituency.
And Parliament yesterday received three new members amid cheers and jubilation from both the ruling party and the opposition.
They were Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe, Kapiri Mposhi MP Eddie Musonda (PF) and Lukulu MP Misheck Mutelo (UPND).

What Lungu should do is lauch an investigation and come up with a casualty report and deal with the soldiers who used unwarranted force causing aviodable deaths and injuries. A ministrial statement is not enough, justice needs to prevail.

Zambian pipo hv no regards for security personnel who are looking after them & property in very dificult conditions. They charge at them, stone them. And they expect the security to run away wen they charge. No sir, you wil blame them if they run away coz next time aliens wil take over zambia coz they wil hv known the weaknes of soldiers.

iwe that is why there is tear gas or high pressure water. Investigation should start with the most high ranked person in that group to find out who issued the order to shot.
