Dear editor
Please post this on your blog
It has come to my attentions that there are no standards whatsoever among Zambian artists and Musicians. Zambian artist normally can pocket as low as KR2000 per appearance/ Concert.
Our Zambian artists must set their own standard and that will also improve the economy of our Zambian entertainment industry. Look at Nigeria, local artists like Wizkid the lowest he’s paid per Local appearance is N2 million or KR60 000 in Zambian kwacha. and in a week they do 2 or 3 appearances and in a month these Musicians are able to earn themselves over KR500, 000.
If they can’t set their standard I would advise them to form an association to help them set their minimum pay per appearance.
That’s why we are finding our best Musicians quitting Music to join Djaying because of the peanuts they get in the current music industry. Ask Petersen.
I would also like to condemn the companies like Airtel for exploiting our Muscians. I don’t know how much they pay our artists to appear on their adverts but I know its peanuts. MTN in Nigeria Pays its Local artists as much as KR2 million just for featuring on their adverts.
I’m comparing to Nigerian artists because Nigeria as the most developed Entertainment/music industry in Africa.
I hope our artists can pick one or two things from this.

they have to survive. If i was a start up musician, I would gladly accept a KR2,000. Lots of money for me, a Call Boy who earns KR30 per day after operating a bus for 10 hours. so in a month I get KR700. Now KR2,000 for one performance?? wow. give me. give me please!!!

The question is what type of music are you off loading to the general public? the music which you are giving us is just one and the same. Your message is only about LOVE you fail to sing on issues that are affecting the general populance in different societies. So make your music attractive before requesting for more money. Do not compare yourselve with P-Square their creativity superpub.

If all the musicians get along, they can set a standard of what they are worthy, but they are so hungry that the can get anything, plus they are so jealous of each other so they do not well very well, look at ZAM, who heads ZAM????

Music should be part time.I advise musicians to work as hard as Saboi.Save the little you get and invest in your education.Remember that education is the key to success.

What kind of a sound engineer who does not even know the rates the musicians gets? Popularity and demand for tickets determine the price of the tickets and that in turn determines the rate/show. Most Zambian musicians overate themselves, they bribe radio DJ’s to play their songs and claim that it is a hit! A hit record should be determined by number of units sold not by the play time of corrupt DJ’s. Nigeria is not advanced in the entertainment business, its production is cheap and of low quality it cannot be compared to South Africa. Nigeria believes in quantity not quality that’s why we never hear of a Nigerian movie being nominated for award in European or American film festivals. Just because Neyo or Eminem or Usher earns £2 million per show at a musical festival, it does not mean that all musicians have to earn the same amount. They should stop lip-syncing and playing recorded music at live shows, it is pathetic! You cannot expect people to pay good money to watch someone pretending to sing on stage when they can play the CD at home. At the moment, we have few musicians who can play musical instruments, the rest rely on digital music and it has became monotonous.

Eish….. They want us to pay Pilato, OC, 2wice, Mwinemushi, Nasty D etc KR60,000 when they have just walked from Kabwata (on foot baba)with a scratched CD to perform at some useless JOINT.
Live Music, let them invest in LIVE Music not miming…..

The only reason why i even watch these guys is just to see dancing queens. The perfomance is holible plus they do wat they because of hunger. And it doesnt matter how much airtel pays them coz being chosen by airtel to them is a success.Desperate moments bring desperate actions.

Who can pay more than K2000 for the crap that they deafen us with. Childish messages, stollen tunes, hoarse voices, unedited lyrics, misunderstood rhyme, who do you think can pay more for that nonsense?
