ZAMBEEF Takes Down Imported Beef, Blames Former Employee For Exposing The Company

Zambeef has with immediate effect recalled all imported beef products from its outlets in the country.

Zambeef Chief Executive Officer Francis Grogan announced at a media briefing in Lusaka yestereday that this is in view of recent media reports to the effect that there are dangerous levels of Aromatic Aldehydes in Zambeef’s imported beef products.

Mr. Grogan says the products have been withdrawn from market until the matter is fully investigated by the ministry of health to pave way for credible and transparent sampling and testing by the ministry and Zambeef themselves.

Mr. Grogan says customers are the company’s main concern in the whole issue, stating that Zambeef would not knowingly supply them with sub standard products.

He says Zambeef has grown to be one of the most admired and highly respected companies in Zambia and hence takes the quality of products and health of its customers seriously stressing that to suggest that it would risk the health of its customers for whatever gain is totally and utterly absurd in the extreme.

Mr. Grogan has further assured the public that Zambeef will engage and cooperate with the Ministry of health on the matter and hopes that the ministry will involve them in the sampling and testing process of beef products from the beginning to the end.

He adds that the company’s operations are open to scrutiny and hopes that the matter will be resolved in a sober, professional manner relying on conclusive scientific evidence.

Mr. Grogan has further blamed a disgruntled former employee for sparking the whole issue out of bitterness after being dismissed by the company last year.

Mr. Grogan says after being dismissed Gregory Kapansa, allegedly threatened to harm the company unless he was paid a huge sum of money which the company refused.

He explains that the matter is now in court.
Mr. Grogan has further assured the public that all imported Zambeef products are only sourced from highly credible meat exporting companies overseas with all consignments being accompanied by Health Certificates and Certificates of Wholesomeness signed by relevant government authorities of exporting countries.

Putting money first before the health of the citizens? This is sad.
Meanwhile the govt must ban all imports of flesh fresh animal products while carrying investigations.

Why are we importing beef from Europe? Have run out of cows in this country? Why not import from Botswana who are our neighbour?

Specifically ZAMBEEF is importing cow hooves, tripe (offals), oxtail, kidneys. Basically the inners. These are literally thrown away in the UK as the locals do not eat these. Zambeef gets them for almost nothing except for transportation and preservation costs and thereby making huge profits here. To avoid these products rotting or the like ZAMBEEF is allegendly using this motuary chemical.

Ba Grogan you are not normal. So you mean if Kapansa had not exposed you, you would have kept on selling these infected meat products to us? How are we going to trust you? It is very easy for you to corrupt those health individuals in those countries where you import these meat products and get certificates from them. All the trust that we had in you is gone, we will never trust that company again, never. You are very evil.

Its too late the long term effects have already been inflicted on the poor Zambians.
The compony should be compelled to compensate the Zambians by constructing a 600- bed capacity hospital in any rural part of Zambia and also sponsor a research on the long term effects of the substance.Poor we.How I enjoyed the offals from one of the outlets in Mansa.

MEAT OF THAT TYPE IS THERE TOO.

Hurting Zambeef reputation is hurting the reputation of Zambia as a country. Mind you, Zambeef is exporting Zambia Meat to other countries! The MOH should be professional and non- alarmist. I really do not believe in this story! In the first place , how did the GRZ allowed this meat in Zambia? Do we have bureau of standard in this country? How many other bad things are we chewing in this country? Total incompetence!

ZAMBEEF has outlets in west africa specifcally Nigeria. I think Nigeria would not allow the contaminated products to enter their country directly from Europe. My guess is ZAMBBEF imports these products into Zambia from Europe and re exports them from Zambia to west africa as if they are Zambian products.

This chap should not even bringing the issue of his employee. That is of no significance to the matter at hand. That is total undermining the issue at hand. ZAMBEEF has always had a trust in the health inspectors and it is not the first time samples from Zambeef have been taken for tests. In the past he had no problem with the professionalism and expertise of the health inspectors till this time that his company has been found wanting. He is being a liability even to the company by his statement coming from his mouth every time. Why send samples to Germany or SA? what is the guarantee that what he sent is beef from zambia and not imported? he wants to behave clever over all Zambians despite the respect he has been shown so far. These boys are an insult the country as whole. Let him give more details about the source of the same meat under scrutiny from UK companies if he being honest even a tiny bit. Let him mention the names of his suppliers, zambians abroad will make a follow up. He should stop undermining us, he will regret.

Mr. Grogan, we are a poor country. The health inspectors can not be trusted with our health nor the police with our lives for matters such as these. This country is on its own and the only way we can know about things of this nature is when a whistle blower comes out with information. right now as we speak all efforts are being to ensure to ensure cover up.

You are very unethical and greedy! Perhaps you even exchange our goog Zambia beef for the contaminated European ones! Let the almighty judge and if you are telling the truth, then let God help you.

THIS ISSUE IS SERIOUS MWE BANTU.
THE REVELATION IS 3 OR 5 DAYS OLD BUT FOR YEARS WE HAVE BEEN EATING ZAMBEEF MEAT.
HAPPY AND SAFE ARE VEGETARIANS…ARE YOU?
I THINK MOH SHOULD CONSIDER PLANTING AN URGENT HEALTH EXERCISE TO TEST ALL PEOPLE.
THE RISK MIGHT BE HIGHER THAN ONE MIGHT THINK.
THE ZBS’ZAMBIA BUREAU OF STANDARD’ NEEDS TO BE VERY PROFESSIONAL BECAUSE FOOD IS TESTED BEFORE EATING NOT AFTER. I MEAN IMPORTED GOODS ARE CHECKED,TESTED, APPROVED OR REJECTED AT THE BORDER ENTRY, NOT MU MALA.
    IT’S SCARY MWE!!
JUST AS BA SATA SAID:’ WE ARE THE CONDUITS’
THE HORSE MEAT SCANDAL IN EUROPE WAS SOLVED WITH A SPEED TO SPARE LIVES IF AT ALL RISK WAS THERE BUT IN AFRICA THINGS ARE TAKEN LIGHTLY TILL WE RECORD HUGE LOST OF LIVES.AWE NINFULWA.

This is serious to say the least. Two brief comments. Europe is known for mad cow disease and now and then we here of beef bans around the Union, so how can Grogan say he imports meat from reputable European countries. Grogan those certificates are not the worth the paper they are written on.European meat is raised on crap feedstock, it is unlikley the meat exported to a third worl country will deserve the attention it deserves.
Secondly and probably very serious. We have abundant good beef in the region why go to Europe? Could this be a way of externalising our much needed foreign currency you obviously do not contribute to? It is very convenient I would guess to import meat at exorbitant prices from one of your sister companies abroad…. sending USD out to your foreign acounts not so Grogan? BOZ and ZRA please investigate this area, do not just brush it aside.
