Prof. Chirwa Was Retired Transparently – Mukanga

Minister of Transports, Works, Supply and Communications, Yamfwa Mukanga, says the engagement and retirement of former Zambia Railways Limited Chief Excutive Officer Clive Chirwa was done in a transparent and mature manner.

In a Ministerial statement to Parliament this afternoon, Mr. Mukanga noted that Prof. Chirwa did not recognize the authority of the board in that he disobeyed most of the instructions given to him.

The Minister adds that the board served him with several warning letters and reminded him of his duties under the contract.

Mr. Mukanga says it was for this reason that government decided to take action against the former ZRL managing Director for his misconduct.

And Mr. Mukanga has explained that his Ministry dissolved the ZRL board in order start afresh in terms of the leadership of company.

How much is the Prof going to be paid?

We demand as tax payers the full amount that will be paid to the “Prof”

Prof.chirwa was right not to honour the board instructions. The man was not appointed by the board but by the highest office of the land. Please leave the prof.alone to enjoy his retirement in peace.
Prof. Chirwa, thanks for proving that you are a failure and that you have never managed a business as big as ZRL.

It does not fetch me an atom of surprise that it has come to this because confusion began with how he was appointed.Prof. Chirwa may have had issues but his premature retirement reveals more than it conceals a problem with the Mukanga’s Ministry.
But then what lesson has the Ministry learnt from this fiasco going forward? In my humble view let the Authorities that be appoint the Board and the allow the Board to advertise the position and agree terms and conditions with successful candidates.
Anything short of this will see a repeat of this now or indeed in future. At the time when money has been borrowed and hope raised as a result, we can not afford to still be mired in issues of who leads the railway system.

@Gundamtambo you are behind, Muyenga Atanga has already been comfirmed as ZR CEO. He was caretaker when Prof Chirwa was suspended. So no need to advertise or else we cough another retirement package just now.

The board should be put in place and in turn let it recruit the CEO in a transparency money. The appointment of Atanga is exactly how Chirwa was engarged and we fear the same experience may repeat it self

The question which require the minister to shed more light is Why is Director Finance still on suspension if the issue with Prof Chirwa has been addressed ?
