Zambia rising star Bornwell Mwape has been tipped to move straight to Europe after his club’s president said they would not sell the 21-year-old to South Africa.
Mwape, who netted twice for the Zambia in a friendly win over Zimbabwe in April and who has been included in Chipolopolo’s squad for the COSAFA Cup next month, has been heavily linked with a move to Golden Arrows.
But Nchanga Rangers president Blackwell Siwale has slammed the PSL as ‘wasting the talent’ of many Zambian stars and said the club will only consider offers from Europe for the youngster.
“We can consider something that will enable him to go straight away to Europe, not South Africa. South African teams are not teams that can nurture a career for our Zambian players,” Siwale told reporters.
“Look around … all our players who are playing in South Africa, none of them has broken into the English Premier League.”
Siwale does, of course, forget that Collins Mbesuma went from Kaizer Chiefs to Portsmouth in the English top-flight, but the point is made.
Mwape, who also played for Zambia in their 4-0 FIFA World Cup qualifier win over Lesotho earlier this month, is tipped to be a leading star at the COSAFA Cup tournament that starts in his homeland on July 6.
A good performance there and Siwale’s resolve may be tested if some big money offers do come in from PSL clubs, who will have scouts monitoring the event closely.

With due respect to Mwape, despite scoring somewhwt regularly, he doesnt, in my observation have the talent to make it into the EPL. If he is lucky enough to get an offer from psl, let him go and at least make a little money before he fizzles out.

Good advice, I totally agree with him. Apart from Mbesusuma which other player has gone to competitive leagues in Europe? Its not only the EPL in Europe there are other leagues, common guys lets change our mind sets. Look at west and north Africans, no wonder they are always better coz their players are all over Europe. If anything SPL is not as completive as our local league should we be wasting our talent for a few rands?

Does it follow that because no any other Zambian player who has plied his trade SPL has made it to Europe, then young Bruce should not go via that route? Which league is watched much more than the other in this case?
In fact at face value this advice sounds credible but beneath the veneer are cracks. It’s possible the man wants to cling to the player just so that he can help win the league and boost his image. The boy, who I feel is being over rated for now, should be allowed a freedom of choice. After all within years he will retire and it is proceeds from the pitch that might take care of him for the rest of eternity.
