Now Old Kwacha Notes Cease to Be Used Midnight 30th June, 2013 ‘It Now Expires’

moneyJune 30, the old currency ceased to be valid, this is according to a Bank of Zambia notice on the expiry of old currency after it was rebased.

There is a public holiday today and so nobody can exchange the old notes until tuesday.

Shops will not accept the old notes on Monday so it is hoped the Zambian people dont get stuck with them being the only thing in their wallet today.

It remains to be seen if BOZ will announce an extension to the deadline as it has fallen on Holiday.

Zambia now has to introduce vending machines in order to sustain coines in the country. The only thing which is worrying is that the government is doing nothing about the issue, otherwise coins will be useless and costly.

Mwe bantu BOZ instructions are very simple and straight forward. You can still go to commercial banks and exchange the currency up to Dec 2014 but it should not be used in the trade. After Dec 2014 BOZ will still accept old notes at their Ndola and Lusaka offices until 2015. Then what more do yu want yu embeciles?

@PJM which village are you talking about. We have been as far as Nabwalya, your home village, to retrieve the old currency. People in the villages are not complaining but why are people in town, where banks are just a stone throw away, complaining.

No more trading with old currency but u can change ur old currency for new ones from commercial banks until further notice. But some few personal business can still accept old currency since they can be changed or deposited at their commercial banks.its now law not to accept old currency but a directive.

@ba Medza, from January to June 30, even people in villages have been trading. As a businessman, I will go into a village & trade in all old notes for new ones at a fee. Thats a cost of their inertia!

I thought the “illegal” money PF thought was in circulation has been mopped up and they have a clear understanding how much was in circulation and the way forward.

But the kwacha has plummented to it’s low level. so where is the benefit????

IT IS SHOCKING TO SEE HOW EASILY THE NEW NOTES FEDS OFF.

WHAT EXACTLY WENT WRONG WITH THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS?

IN THE REGION, THESE ARE THE WORST NOTES WE HAVE!!!

    BOZ NEEDS TO EXPLAIN THIS.
