Nkana Return To Top

Nkana reclaimed top spot in the MTN/FAZ Super Division after 2-0 Kitwe derby win over struggling Power Dynamos.

The 11-time champions redeemed themselves after suffering a 3-1 away loss at Zesco United on June 30 to exchange places with the latter who drop back to second place.
Nkana’s return to the top comes after Zesco were held to a scoreless draw away by defending champions Zanaco at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Meanwhile back at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, Festus Mbewe put Nkana ahead in the 5th minute to score his ninth goal of the season before Kelvin Mubanga cemented the three points in the 38th minute.
Power had a great chance to crawl back into the game in the 76th minute via a penalty but defender Maybin Mwaba failed to convert the spot kick after striker Graven Chitalu was brought down in the box.
The visitors further failed to capitalize on their hosts’ player deficit shortly thereafter when Nkana were reduced to ten-men after defender Donashano Malama was sent-off for a second bookable offence.
Nkana move up to 32 points, one more than Zesco after 14 games played as the league takes a two-week break to make way for the 2013 Cosafa Cup that Zambia will host from July 6-20.
