Kabimba Differs With RB ‘Mandela Didn’t Forgive People Against Corruption’

JUSTICE minister Wynter Kabimba yesterday differed with Rupiah Banda over the former president’s approach to reconciliation with former leaders.
On Wednesday, Banda, who is facing corruption charges, said leaders should emulate Nelson Mandela’s reconciliatory and loving spirit if the world was to become a better place to live in.
In an interview with Bloomberg News for a yet to be published article, Banda observed that Mandela’s positive attitude after his release from prison in 1990 forestalled what could have become a crusade of vengeance against his jailers when he became the country’s first black president in 1994.
Banda said the anti-apartheid icon, who spent 27 years in jail, was an embodiment of the qualities that any leader needed to help create a harmonious society.
But Kabimba said Mandela did not forgive people against corruption but against discrimination.
“That’s the reconciliation that Mandela fought for. He did not forgive people against corruption, that’s the difference. The whites had not stolen from the blacks. They had not dipped their long fingers into the national treasury of South Africa. If anything, they tried to develop that country, that’s the difference. Mr Rupiah Banda is facing allegations of corruption and I don’t think that any leader elected by the people can be elected to go and steal from them. He is elected to go and serve them,” he said.
Kabimba said Mandela did not want to perpetuate a system of discrimination.
“There is a big difference. FW de Klerk was not accused of corruption. P.W. Botha was not accused of corruption or theft of public funds. Mr Rupiah Banda is being accused of stealing from the people of Zambia together with his team, that’s the accusation. Those are the charges against him. How can the people of Zambia forgive such a man?” he wondered.
Kabimba said the world would instead be a better place to live in if there were no corrupt leaders.
He said the Zambian people are the ones who were calling on Banda to account for his actions and not the PF government.
“It is the people of Zambia, the owners of the oil that he is alleged to have diverted. Those are ones that are calling him to account, it is not us PF government,” he said.
Kabimba said Banda had been trying to solicit sympathy from other leaders in the region.
Kabimba described Banda’s statement as a ploy of getting sympathy from other leaders in the region, saying that was the campaign that the former president had engaged in.
“He is trying to solicit sympathy from other leaders in the region. That’s what he is trying to do and we know that that has been his campaign around the region,” he said.
Kabimba said there was no parallel between Banda and Mandela, saying the example was off the mark.
He said Mandela forgave people for running a system which was unfair to one group against another group.

RB should just explain his cases in court and not seek an escape route through reconciliation.
Politicians are extremely conniving. RB is counting on the death of Madiba so that he appeals for reconciliation and hopefully his cases would be dropped.
RB himself let free Chiluba so that he sets a precedent and his successor if from MMD would not dare look at his offences.
As God is always in charge, this scheme failed even after spending close to KR1,000,000,000 ( 1 Trillion Kwacha before rebasing). This was all to serve their own skins which they knew would dance “pelete” with change of governement.
I as a citizen would rather have RB exonerated through the courts of law so that the current PF leaders are deterred from corruption.
Let’s not perpetuate the culture of impunity!

So you pipo you think that the $2m oil deal money that went into RB’s Singapore account is not stealing from the people? Most of you against Kabimba, you do not even pay tax or the money you plundered is more than the mergre tax you pay that is why you think this issue is persecution.

How can you turn a blind eye to the fact that RB’s children ran this country with crooks all arround the world and in all sectors of our economy in just 2 years?

How can you honestly forget that RB must answer charges before court.

How do you honestly do not support the fact that the former president must clear his name? Do you want that accusations to be a permanent topic against RB.

Hate, Jealous and greed all your characteristics will not deter this govt from working for the Zambians.

As a common man in zambia I can see that the following are the four corner stones of the PF govt.

    1. Infrastructure development
    2. Employment creation and more money to the people
    3. Inclusive governance and decentralisation,
    4. Fight against corruption.

    Watch this space.

Kamimba is now an expert on any issue in Zambia. He comments on anything and everything .
What is it with politicians – the assumption that overnight after election they become the repository of wisdom and intellect.
