Chambishi- A Long Over Due District

Dear Editor
I wish to bring to the attention of our president my concerns as to why he has turned a blind-eye or shut-off the desires of Chambishi residents. For a long time, Chambishi people have been demanding for their productive town to be made a District. Their efforts have gone as far as applying in newspaper, signing partitions and contacting relevant authorities; all in a bid to make our president aware of their desires.

This desire to make their town as a district is not farfetched. Chambishi is a Constituency of Kalulushi District. This status of being a constituency is for many other towns a blessing but not for Chambishi. It has been used like cultivating farm by Kalulushi for a long time. What do I mean? Chambishi has more revenue than Kalulushi due to the three big mines it has. In addition, Chambishi has got an Economic Zone under construction.

Very soon, it will have a fourth mine. Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Chambishi in under developed when compared to Kalulushi town. This is because Kalulushi has been using Chambishis huge revenue to develop itself. This is evident in infrastructures and community projects. Visit the two towns and the evidence will be overwhelming. OUR PRESIDENT PLEASE LIBERATE US FROM KALULUSH SO THAT OUR TOWN CAN DEVELOP TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL!! In the process to bring decentralization, our President has made Districts. Most of these newly made District do indeed deserve to have that title.

However, for towns like Chambishi that truly deserve to be made into a District, our Mayor, District Commissioner and MP have gone silent on the matter. Sad to say that even our President Michael Sata has also been silent on the matter despite numerous appeals. What should Chambishi residents do to make our President to make our town a District? Has our President even head our appeals? Should we protest in order to be head by our President?

Concerned Resident.

Concerned resident right as you may be the history of Kalulushi vis a vi Chambishi must be looked at. When RST opened No 1 & 2 Shafts in Kalulushi, the company also established Kalulushi residential areas. From there they discovered some more ore in the Chambishi area. There were no houses near the newly discored Chambishi mine so residents used to ferried from Kalulushi. In short Chambishi was just a mine not a settlement. Chambishi has so many employees staying in Kalulushi therefore withdrawing the income as you suggest will deprive your employees of many amenities.

I support the writer. Chambishi deserves to be a district inorder to foster development. The distance between Chambishi and Kalulushi is too far hence making it difficult for Chambishi residents to process documents such as title deeds . Mr. President sir, do something.

THE REASONS GIVEN FOR CHAMBISHI TO BE A DISTRICT

    ARE VERY SHALLOW.

SO IF MORE COPPER AND WEALTH WILL COME FROM NORTH

WESTERN THEN THE PROVINCE SHOULD DEMAND CERTAIN

    THINGS?

FOR HOW LONG HAS THE C/BELT BEEN THE BREAD WINNER

    OF ZAMBIA?

THE PROBLEM WITH US IS YOU WANT TO BE THE NEXT DISTRICT COMMISSIONER OR MP OR OTHER HIGHLY PAID BUT USELESS GOVT JOBS.

FIND YOUR OWN MONEY AND SHUT UP. NO SHORT CUTS.

Ba chambishi! What you should know is that the creation of new districts is simply to open up those areas which have been disadvantaged in terms of development. Now look at your town it is faster developing with a lot of industries which other districts like lufwanyama hasn’t got. Let govt open up other areas which realy need development.
