Is it a sin to look after yourself and reach a ripe age?

These people who have murdered this elderly couple have cursed themselves.
Some among them will face jail, others will have misfortunes and some will meet bad deaths themselves.
It is totally barbaric for a society to suspect anybody elderly of being a witch or wizard.

Leave the elderly alone you primitive thugs. The fact that this people have lived all these years does not make them witches. You wanted them to contract HIV infections and die young. It is high time people new that when you get old you tend to behave or do things in apropriately and you may suffer from dementia and other mental issues associated with age like cognitive impairment, short or long term memory loss, paranoid behaviours and so fourth and they may wander around and stray in neighbours property and could be found undressed all together and it does not mean they are witches and you even mobilise the neighbour hood to kill the innocent and defenceless old people. I appeal to the ministry of health to start educating the communities about the elderly behaviours and illnesses

Hendrix,I concur with you 101%. This could be a case of elderly dementia suffering couple who could have been behaving strange and these uninformed people killed totally innocent people.
In Africa the elderly were usually looked after by their children. I have a friend who I respect immensely for she gave up her chance to marry early so that she could look after her mother who suffered from dementia.
Her mothers dementia was extremely debilitating such that towards her last days she sat completely silent rocking in a chair and would go into the bath room to bath but could not get around to actually taking a bath and would just sit there. After some minutes my friend would go in and give the mother a bath.
Until she buried her mother, that is when my friend got married in her late 30s.
We need to start disseminating information to our rural population to start understanding problems that come with aging.
It is a blessing to age, but it can also be a curse, the only sin this couple committed is to age together.
This is a very sad occurence in the 21st century.

Old age has become a curse in Africa. Warn your old parents that they are in danger of being suspected of witchcraft by their younger generation of today!

In the past ‘early Zambian’s… bantu tribes believed that the cause of death to be a curse or bewitchment by a jealous friend or family member. After death the family will employ a witch-finder to search for the source of the bewitchment.
Only the OLD AGED were expected to die of natural causes otherwise; early death, either by accident, sickness or natural causes, was considered as an attack from witchcraft.

      Nowadays ….

I think those that practice witchcraft themselves are the ones who are always quick to point a finger at the weakest.., in this case vulnerable old people.
In other primitive countries they target orphans and stepchildren. The killers are primitive savages that should be locked up before they kill more vulnerable & elderly people. It could happen to any of our parents or grand parents, if it continues like this, guess who could be next?? . THESE SENSELESS KILLINGS MUST BE STOPPED! ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to Zambia, a Christian Nation by declaration but not so Christian by deeds. They will know you are Christians by your Love, so Jesus said

Such things are only popular in Bemba speaking or related areas. Why? it calls for research? I must have just given some masters student an idea of a research area.

It is not right to kill someone even when there is a suspicion of any nature. Those that have been arrested should mention their friends so that everyone who participated in the killing be brought to book. The directive from the government to arrest and prosecute these murderers is welcome and the police command in Copperbelt should not rest until all are caged.Being aged is not the determined factor for witchcraft. There are youth between 20-30 year-old who who more dangerous than the innocent elders. There is much excitements among the coppbelt residents and this should be checked before it get out of hand.

Too bad for the old couple. What proof do the mob you killed them have that they used to perform witchcraft?

“Meanwhile, a 21-year-old man identified as Wamunyima Mwendabai in Shang’ombo District and a 15-year-old boy were allegedly found in possession of a human skull, teeth and pubic hair.

There you are! Even youth practice witchcraft. Thumbs up to the witchdoctor who reported them to the police.
