Sakeni Condemns ‘Witch-Hunts’

GOVERNMENT says it is inhuman, illegal and intolerable for people to burn to death an elderly couple on suspicion of witchcraft and that the culprits must be punished.
Chief Government spokesperson and Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Kennedy Sakeni condemned the killing and urged law enforcement agencies to bring the culprits to book.
Mr Sakeni said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that Government works to provide safety and security for its citizens and that it will ensure these rights are protected at all times.
“The act is illegal, inhuman and intolerable, which will not go unpunished. Perpetrators of this brutal killing should be brought to book,” Mr Sakeni said.
He said people should not take the law into their hands because the law is very clear and that people should report anyone suspected of wrongdoing to law enforcement agencies.
Mr Sakeni said stern action will be taken against people who resort to lawlessness.
The couple, identified as Jungo Chisola, 80, and his wife Matengu Sankanu, who was believed to be 70 years old, were accused by some Ndola residents of being responsible for the death of a man in a road traffic accident recently.
The two were severely beaten, logs piled on them and set ablaze.
The body of the man was burnt to near ashes while his wife’s abdomen was ripped open.
Ms Sankanu’s right arm was charred besides the suspects also inflicting a deep cut on the right side of her head.

But this the Government that does not like bald headed people and whose idea of Security from its top spokesman is to beat your wife regularly. I am deeply shocked that they oppose Witch hunting.

Body builder what did you have for lunch which is making you think through your buttocks?
It is criminal for people to mob an innocent old couple, beat them, brutally kill them and burn their bodies.
It is incomprehensible and all right thinking people must condemn this act and help police to bring perpetrators to answer for their heinous crime.
How can one compare this to hatred for bald heads? I also hate people with bald heads but I am not murdering them.

The advanced age in any human being should not be mistaken or outright conclusion that someone is a wizard or a witch. The say old age is gold. As far as we know even as young as twenty or less can be witch. This extrajudicial kind of mentality dilute our traditional values and barbalic to say the least. Any right thinking person should condemn this!

@ Mundia M it is you thinking pamatako. This Government should stop demonizing people over silly things. Stop crime and condemn unsavoury traditional practice.
