United Party for National Development President, Hakainde Hichilema has written to President Michael Sata to remind him on the commitment he made to reform the judiciary.
Mr. Hichilema says the PF Government seems to have abandoned the pledge for judicial reforms.
He says what is obtaining now; 22 months after the PF came to power suggests that there is more rot in the Judiciary than at any other time in the history of Zambia.
The UPND leader says he has noticed with great concern that Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda has been acting for more than a year, which should not be the case.
Mr. Hichilema has reminded President Sata that the select committee of parliament appointed by the Speaker, comprising of all political parties rejected the appointment of Justice Chibesakunda.
He adds that Zambians will not have confidence in the judiciary whose head is there illegally.
And UPND Deputy Secretary General, Kuchunga Simusamba says threats of contempt of court by acting registrar and director of court operations, Chilombo are a hindrance to the country’s democracy.
Mr. Kuchunga says the Judiciary, like any other arm of government is a public institution and must be open to public scrutiny.
He says judicial officials are public figures and there is nothing wrong for members of the public to express their own opinions on matters of great national importance.

Trees dropout old leaves in order for them to bear good healthy fruits. If people will still hang on to positions even at 69yrs,then there is nothing good for the young ones. A health nation is in young people!

I hope you will stay at the same age forever. Wait until you get old and you will see how it is not different from being young as far as making a living is concerned.

Being young and energetic is not automatically a passport to be wise. You can be young but if your thinking capability is in human and below pal, then your youthfullness is as useless compared to an old man who is able and willing to serve the pipo from abject poverty. Being srved by a leader like Hakainde who has never been in any leadership position before, apart feom being a leader of his family is as good as having no leader at all. Hakainde is not democratically elected, you Noria do you remember when UPND had their convention? now its 7 years no convention there by breaching their party constitution shame.

HH likes fighting within himself. Recently he was against President Sata retiring former Chief Justice Ersnest Sakala who they called for to retire in the MMD reign becoz of old age. Today he wants Acting Chief Justice to retire because of old age. I agree with President Sata that he should scrutinize himself because before he criticizes others. Its time UPND went for convention to see if he will elected as president coz he was just appointed.

Zambians should not listen to Hakainde who was just pinpointed in 2006 by his tribesmen who were brandshing spears to make sure he was apointed. And we still remember what Ackson Sejani said at that time that UPND presidecy is for Tongas not any other tribes and that is the reason Sichinga,Patrick Chisaga and Sakwiba Sikota backed away. So go to the convention and seek pipo’s mandate. Otherwise no respect for tyrants like you.
