MMD Faction Backs Formation Of One Opposition Party

Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) faction has backed calls for the opposition political parties in the country to form one political party that will be able to provide effective checks and balances to the Patriotic Front (PF) government.

Faction Spokesperson Bernard Mpundu says the current situation where there are too many opposition political voices in country providing checks and balances is as bad as shouting in the wilderness.

He notes that the opposition voice is fragmented to give credible checks and balances to the government.

Mr. Mpundu says the opposition political parties in the country should emulate how the opposition political parties in Kenya came together to form alliances leading to one opposition grouping winning the presidential elections.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mpundu has expressed happiness that some senior leaders in the MMD hierarchy have allegedly endorsed calls for the MMD to host a national convention which should elect a new leadership of the party.

Mr. Mpundu has maintained that under Dr. Nevers Mumba’s leadership, the former ruling party is headed nowhere as far as getting back to power is concerned.

Just how many registered political parties does the country have? It seems while some parties hibernate others are being formed. Maybe to allow for ideology choice and competition we only take the 4 – 5 leading parties and outlaw the rest.

It can can’t work Mr Mphundu. That’s a fallacy at the same time a pipe dream. Even if you succeed, your aim of dislodging PF will not work infact you will end up bickering yourselves.

The basic question is:who is going to be the head of this opposition? The answer is no won is willing to play second fiddle. So it will be more confusing than the current situation. The problem is our leaders think that it is only when you are the president that you can save the country.Unless this changes, its a race against the wind.

The rate at which UPND is closing up in results of most by-elections held so far is encouraging.

The idea of forming one opposition party is not The idea of the existing political parties merging to form one effective political party is not tenable. The only way forward for the opposition parties is to reorganise themselves through conventions before 2016 if they are to remove the PF. For example, it is practically impossible for Nevers Mumba’s style of leadership to give a serious challenge to Sata and even to HH.

In Madagasc, there are going to be 49 contstant to the presidency. Drama on the hignest. Group dynamics will one day make us have only 3 or 4 parties. That will be long after these selfish leaders are dead.

Those dynamics will never happen in Zambia starting from this generation and beyond you can’t expect to have 3 or 4 political parties my friend that is obnoxiousness of the highest kind. This generation should forget dreaming of only three parties unless you remove the word DEMOCRACY.

Last kicks of a dying horse!!! MMD is dead kwashalafye ukushiika nowonder HH is poaching those diseased few members from MMD thinking they will help him the 2016 elections. As at now no opposition party can topple the PF unless they get back to their drawing board & swallow their pride.

Pafwaka hyenas’ kraal won under one umbrella cos of free and fair election by then, not this time under chimbilis who are fond of intimidating and using the police to silencing the opposition. One people can not dispace the chimbwilis from the rotten carcass.
