Zambeef Announces 100% Zambian Beef Policy

MinistryLUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products has made a landmark decision to deal exclusively in Zambian beef products, and will no longer sell any imported beef.

The move was reinforced today (July 24) when the company staged the symbolic disposal of imported beef products.

“After the events of the last one month the company has taken a clear and unequivocal decision to return to its roots and deal exclusively in Zambian beef products only,” said Zambeef Board Chairman, Dr Jacob Mwanza, addressing officials from the Ministry of Health, other government departments and local authorities, the Zambia National Farmers’ Union, media and members of Zambeef staff.

The decision aims to reassure Zambian consumers of the quality of Zambeef’s beef and demonstrates a clear commitment to local livestock farmers, for whom Zambeef provides an important market.

Zambeef was formed 19 years ago and as the name implies, it was built on processing Zambian beef. In recent years, Zambeef has supplemented its local beef supply with imported beef products.

“In line with the above, and in consultation with the Ministry of Health, the company has made the decision to dispose of all imported beef products to give the Zambian public our 100 percent commitment that since June 20, 2013, and from this day forward, only Zambian beef products will be on offer in our outlets,” added the Board Chairman, Dr Jacob Mwanza.

The company thanked the Ministry of Health for their guidance and advice on this matter and assured customers that only beef products of the highest quality and of Zambian origin will be offered in its outlets.

This ZAMBEEF is really lost on how to solve this scandal they caused. Why should they think buying Zambian beef is reassuring, when they have not divulged the point of contamination.
From the media source, the last 2 trucks of imported meat where found to be free of formaldehyde. This fact in every right thinking persons’ mind then points a finger straight at Zambeef itself using the embalming liquid to preserve the meat.
I and my household have resolved to buying goats and pigs alive from our friends farms and killing them ourselves hygienically. This should also go for chickens, which from now on wards will be village/organic.
No more being embalmed alive by ZAMEMBALMERS!
By the way, is the ministry of Health leaving the embalmers to go scot-free? Ministry of Health, go ahead and fine this selfish company. The shareholders who have been enjoying the money generated through slowly poisoning Zambians with a carcinogen substance should feel the pinch!

Where I come from Zbeeef would have been closed and taken over by the state……however there would had not been much to take over as most assets and funds had started to be moved and funds externalised during the period of the aldehyde saga.

Grogan and team expected the worst so they were not sure whst would happen….

Am not convinced about their Chairman’s psyche now and why he us still hanging in there…..

Where I come from Dr. Mwanza would have stepped down unless if course he has been aware that Zambeef had been using Formaldehydes on its beef all along…..where does this leave you and me?

It will be dignified for Zambeef as a company to apologise for misleading people by denying the allegation which has proved to be true. There was two camps over Zambeef saga; one was supporting Zambeef and accusing the government that they are politicising the issue and the other camp stood firm that the tests conducted by Ministry of Health were correct. The opposition even came in to rescue Zambeef on expense of the lives of the people they are anticipating to rule. Let Zambeef apologise to the entire nation for their dishonest. The government should be praised for standing firm to rescue the lives of many Zambians most of them who were ignorant
