More Issues Exposed: Hapunda Faces Arrest Over Solicitation

BRIAN Hapunda faces arrest for soliciting over K300,000 from the business community and parastatal companies such as Zamtel.
And Hapunda says he is ready to account for his deeds.
According to a police source, Hapunda, who was fired by President Michael Sata as Southern Province PF political secretary, for collecting money in the President’s name and that of PF secretary general Wynter Kabimba, is alleged to have collected over US$15,000 from a named businessman of Asian origin.

“We are investigating Hapunda for many offences but the clear ones are that of obtaining money by false pretences, which so far amounts to over K300,000. Zamtel is one of the companies that were also targeted and we are also following up leads as he is purported to have so far bought a Mercedes Benz car from Japan which we will confiscate as it is a property bought from proceeds of crime,” the source said.

And in an interview, Hapunda said he was ready to be investigated by police.
“They can carry out their investigations. They are things that I can account for. I had a Mercedes Benz which was involved in an accident, which I sold off to buy another one,” Hapunda said.

And in a press statement, Hapunda, without making reference to the reasons for his dismissal, said his appointment at the tender age of 29 was a sign that President Sata had confidence in young people.

“I want to urge my fellow young people in Zambia to come forth and continue to support the able PF and his Excellency President Sata who is passionate about the plight of the young people and general citizenry of Zambia,” he stated.
He stated that he would remain a loyal member of the PF and would continue to support President Sata.

“I will continue with my party mobilisation programmes in Southern Province working under various party structures,” Hapunda said.

On Wednesday when asked about his dismissal, Hapunda said he had not received any notification, adding that it was just a rumour.

“It is just a rumour. I don’t have anything. I’m still here, let us meet at the airport. I’m going there for the arrival of the first lady,” said Hapunda.

And Southern Province police commissioner Charity Katanga said as soon as police got something on Hapunda, investigations would be launched.

On July 17, Hapunda said people who were going round to solicit for funds, purporting that Kabimba had sent them to raise funds for by-elections, were not PF members.

He appealed to the police to fully investigate the alleged scam involving people he suspected were from Lusaka soliciting for funds from companies in Livingstone.

“The PF is systematic in its operations and would not solicit for funds from companies in such a manner. I want to disassociate the PF youths from this funds saga and appeal to the police to investigate and bring to book the culprits,” Hapunda said then.

According to a letter dated July 29, 2013 copied to Kabimba and Southern Province PF chairman, President Sata said Hapunda had been going round collecting monies from companies and business houses in his name and that of Kabimba.

“In justifying your collections, you have at times written letters of acknowledgment to donors and purported to copy the same to the secretary general. You also wrote to management of Southern and Water and Sewerage Company requesting them to settle your house rentals when you know that this was against the policy of the party,” read the letter in part.

So so sad! if this is proven true, then the image of young generation is tarnished, as the old folks would think twice before leadership opportunity is entrusted to the youths.

well remain in the bossom of the party. You will be rest assured of protection. Look at Namulambe, Masumba, GBM and Kabimba. You should sing louder for the GREAT LEADER and never throw stones in secrecy. He knows everything, 7/24, that goes on including the chief’s bed rooms.

PF like picking people from nowhere leaving out real PF members in giving out position. That young man came from UPND and he was given a position when there are people who died a little and risked their life’s for PF who deserved such positions. Those are the end results he has nothing to lose will just go back to UPND and start denouncing PF.NOT ALL STONES CAN BE A CHIEF CORNER STONE

JUDGING BY HIS OWN WORDS, THE WHOLE THING SOUNDS LIKE A ‘DID YOU HEAR’ AND ‘RUMOUR HAS IT’ OF THE KIND.
COMMENTS WILL MAKE SENSE WHEN INVESTIGATIONS ARE CARRIED OUT.

@Nana, did you read the article? If you ever did, it could have been better to do so at slightly higher level than below Grade 7 which you are ably exhibiting. This article is about alleged illegal solicitation by your PF official. I have not seen any tribe issues 1d1oghty iwe grow up.

All those that were swindled in a similar way by these political opportunists can come forward and report the matter to relevant authorities. There is no way that somebody can take hard earned earned money for a selfish motive. Buying a Benz Car?
