Zambia Seek CHAN Progress With Botswana Showdown

Zambia’s African Nations Championship dream will come in the spotlight today when they face a determined Botswana side at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the return leg.

The two sides battled to a 1-all draw in the first leg in Gaborone and Zambia has to win to be certain of making the next stage although if it ends goalless Herve Renard’s lads will still make the final qualifying round.

Zambia 13Renard has roped in new names in the team in an attempt to shake up things going into the second leg which was saw Zambia put a less than impressive show despite recording a vital 1-all draw.

With Nchanga Rangers attacking midfielder Alex Ng’onga suspended Renard will most likely hand a starting berth to fit again Red Arrows midfielder Bruce Musakanya with his partner at the 2011 Under-20 team Evans Kangwa looking to make the starting XI after having been impressive in training.

Other than those two likely changes the rest of the set up will be the same with skipper Bronson Chama partnering Christopher Munthali while Fackson Kapumbu and Jimmy Chisenga will take the left and right wingbacks respectively.

At the heart of midfielder Renard has favoured a heavily congested engine room with Sydney Kalume and Khondwani Mtonga commandeering proceedings with Mukuka Mulenga adding fluidity.

Upfront Festus Mbewe could partner Kangwa with Musakanya operating from the wing to complete the squad.

But the Zebras are motivated to right things from the first leg with scorer in the first leg Lemponye Tshirelesto hoping to break Zambian hearts Moemedi Mothlaphing another strong challenger to the Zambian back line.

The winner over two legs will face either Zimbabwe or Mauritius who will also be in action in Harare with the Warriors carrying a 3-0 cushion from the first leg.

I mean, if Danny is a liability then we are in serious trouble. We must find a more capable goal minder before the game this afternoon.
