8 Criminals Bolt From Isoka Prison

EIGHT dangerous criminals have escaped from lawful custody at the congested Isoka Remand Prison in Muchinga Province in unclear circumstances.
But three have already been recaptured while one was found dead in the hills. The escapees are facing various offences, including armed robbery.
Isoka district administrative officer Alex Sinkala confirmed the escape to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali yesterday.
The remandees escaped around 10:30 hours yesterday after cutting a wire fence. It has not yet been established as to who killed the escapee whose body was discovered by a combined team of security officers on a search mission.
Among the remandees who were recaptured, one was shot in the leg and is battling for his life at Isoka District Community Hospital.
Mr Sinkala said a manhunt has been launched to bring all the escapees to book and appealed to members of the public to help the police with information that would lead to the recapture of the rest of the escapees.
Muchinga Province Prisons regional commander Namataa Mayumbelo, who rushed to Isoka on a fact-finding mission, could not comment on the matter.
“Sorry, I cannot comment on the matter just now,” Ms Mayumbelo said.
Meanwhile, a schoolgirl has been locked up at Isoka prison for allegedly interfering with the prison wardens during the time of the prison break.
The girl is said to have become furious and insulted prison wardens after she was ordered to stop as the officers desperately tried to hunt down the escapees.
By press time, the girl had not been released. – ZANIS.
