THE Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association (CSFA) and Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) have saluted Government for providing two buses to ferry fans to Harare for tomorrow’s 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) last round first leg against Zimbabwe.
A 60-seater bus has been allocated to CSFA and the other one to ZASPOFA.
CSFA chairperson Yotam Mwanza said in Lusaka yesterday that the gesture shows that President Sata and the Government want Zambia to qualify for the CHAN finals billed for South Africa.
“We thank Government, the Minister of Sport and Youth Chishimba Kambwili and President Sata for providing fans with buses to ferry us to Harare. We are travelling tomorrow (today) and the Chipolopolo boys are assured of total support,” Mwanza said.
He also called on Government to charter a plane to ferry fans to Kumasi for next month’s crucial 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifier against Ghana.
And ZASPOFA chairperson Peter Makembo said the Sata-led administration is a listening one.
“As ZASPOFA we are grateful to the government and we thank President Sata through the hardworking Minister of Sport Chishimba Kambwili. This shows how serious President Sata is in promoting soccer,” Makembo said.
He said fans will reciprocate the gesture by “making a lot of noise” at Rufaro Stadium.
“He (Sata) is a listening President and he has heard the cry of the fans. We are going to Zimbabwe to cheer the boys to victory,” Makembo said.
And ZASPOFA called on corporate organisations to help finance accommodation and food for fans while in Harare.
“Most of my members do not work and where are they going to find money for accommodation and food? We are just coming from the COSAFA tournament, which we supported. They (fans) need food so that they can blow the trumpets for 90 minutes. You need to eat to be able to blow the trumpet,” Makembo said.

For every action there is an equal n opposite reaction basa. To u the soccer fans its ”free” so u think but to the zambians who work, its the tax they pay which is footing the bills. Wake up! Kabubuka!

A listening government knows that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So some tax money can rightly also go to entertainment.

So it is a political campaign for PF. I had feared so especially that tax payers’s money is always available for this purpose. The same people being rewarded with “free” tickets and free “food” according to Pastor Makembo, will be deployed to campaign for the PF wherever there will be elections. Would known MMD and UPND cadres be given those tickets? What is the criteria being used to choose the “lucky” 100+, out of the 13 million Zambians, those to receive the free tickets and pocket money (is it food vouchers?.
I grieve this wanton misapplication of resources.
If we really cared about entertaining Zambians we would make this money available for so-called “minor” sports which are currently struggling financially.

I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH GOVT SPENDING MY MONEY/TAX CONTRIBUTION IN THAT WAY AND DEFINITELY NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.
SOME PEOPLE WOULD SPEND IT ON THEIR SONS BUYING BLOCKS OF FLATS FOR THEIR GIRL FRIENDS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES ETC

This game has been cancelled! Thats why we r developing at a slow or negligeable pace. Investing your money, in this case, tax payers money in anything to do with Zimbabwe has a very high risk of failing bcoz there is no political stability yet, let alone the deplorable economic situation we are all aware off. Tax payers money down the drain. But! Pf has a return on this investment in form of guaranteed votes from the soccer fans who they pampered on this trip. “Fili eko tuleya” oh sorry meant ”hili nkotuya kumbele basa”

A human being is indeed a critical animal, an animal which does not see good in most of these things. If i am a tax payer then the govt of the day gives me a free transport to and fro to watch the game as a citizen of the country , what am i supposed to do? I have to appreciate coz its a direct way of giving back to me.
