NDOLA magistrate Ben Akende is seriously injured after his wife allegedly turned to the knife and stabbed him on Thursday night under unclear circumstances.
Acting registrar of the High Court Chilombo Phiri and Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary Tembo yesterday confirmed that Mr Akende is admitted to Ndola Central Hospital.
The magistrate’s wife identified as Gertrude, 42, was arrested and detained at Kansenshi police station in Ndola and has been charged with unlawful wounding.
“I can confirm that Mr Akende is in hospital, according to the report we received from the deputy director of the Ndola High Court Mr Kelvin Limbani. He was stabbed by his wife in the night,” Ms Phiri said.
She added: “We are yet to establish exactly what transpired because I am told that he [Mr Akende] is not in a position to talk.”
Ms Phiri said her office is closely monitoring Mr Akende’s condition but she has been informed that the magistrate is out of danger.
And Ms Tembo confirmed that police have detained Mrs Akende at Kansenshi police station in Ndola.
“It is true that the stabbing happened and we are holding the wife. Mr Akende is in hospital,” she said.
And Ndola criminal investigations officer Martin Chilando said the fight started around 22:00 hours and Mr Akende was stabbed around 23:00 hours on Thursday.
“He was stabbed twice in the chest and in the stomach and he was only rescued by his nephew, who rushed him to the hospital,” Mr Chilando said.
But a source close to this information has disclosed to Tumfweko that the magistrate was stabbed after his wife suspected him of having an affair with a named woman.

TUMFWEKO IS NOT CERTAIN THE CAUSE FOR STABBING WAS ADULTERY.
THEY ARE SOMEWHAT A TABLOID JUNK THAT DOES NOT USUALLY GIVE CREDIBLE NEWS. THEIR NAME QUITE SUITS THEM AND WE THANK THEM FOR THE HIGHLIGHTS. WE WILL DO THE REST OF INVESTIGATIONS ON OUR OWN.
