A CIVIL servant and a taxi driver charged with one count of being found in possession of Government trophy have appeared before Chinsali magistrate Chongo Musonda for trial.
The two are Susan Bwalya Mulenga, 28, of rural compound and Humphrey Mulenga, 24, of Chandamali village in Senior Chief Nkula`s area in Chinsali.
Facts presented before the court were that Mulenga, who is Muchinga Province Local Court Clerk, and Humphrey Mulenga, a taxi driver, were found in possession of four pieces of hartebeest bush meat weighing 13.6 kilogrammes.
It is alleged that Mulenga and Humphrey jointly and whilst acting together with others had game meat in their possession, contrary to Section 100 (1) and (2) and 135 of Zambia Wildlife Act No 12 of 1989 of the Laws of Zambia.
Magistrate Musonda adjourned the matter to September 4, 2013 for commencement of trial when plea could not take off due to the absence of their lawyer, who was reported to have been committed elsewhere.
The police bond for the duo has been extended.
In the same court, a bricklayer of Mulakupikwa village in Chief Chewe`s area in Chinsali who is charged with theft appeared before magistrate Musonda for plea.
Sidney Chisanga is facing one count of theft, contrary to Section 272 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Chisanga, 27, on July 17 this year, stole 33 strips and pockets of tiles all valued at K271, the property of Frame Construction Company.
Chisanga denied the charged and the matter has been adjourned to August 14, 2013. – ZANIS.

The solution to poaching is to get the industry to be economically beneficial to all participants to create better social welfare. The sector needs sustainable manangement.
On the point of law I can’t help but think we already have over-congested prisons. The criminalization of this helps no one.

@Big elephant, can all ‘those others’ be found in possession of 13.6kg. You are the ‘icikopo’ coz in law you do not charge someone with implied insinuations. Ati ‘they are others…’ Ubukopo!

Imwe Kakolwe and Big elephant, why are you insulting each other over a slain animal when you are also animals? Sit down and see how you can be protected instead of only ripping each other’s throats.
