Renard: We Have To Qualify for CHAN

Chipolopolo Boys coach Herve Renard has said Zambia has to qualify for South Africa 2014 CHAN tournament.

And the Frenchman believes the tone is set for the team to get qualification as ‘everything is perfect,’ ahead of this weekend’s 2nd leg of the final round qualifier against Southern Africa arch-rivals Zimbabwe at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in what will be the ‘Battle of Zambezi IV’ this year.

“We have to qualify and so far everything is perfect. If we get qualification, it will be very good,” the gaffer said after Tuesday’s session at Sunset Stadium.

Renard also believes that playing on the Levy Mwanawasa turf will work to his side’s advantage compared to the artificial turf at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

With the team now in Ndola having shifted camp to the Copperbelt, the Frenchman is expected to start focusing on the tactical approach.

Zambia need a win to advance while any scoreline draw will favour the Warriors of Zimbabwe. In case of a goalless stalemate, then the tie will be decided on post-match penalties.

Should Zambia negotiate its way, then it will be the second time the ‘shadow’ Chipolopolo Boys will qualify for a CHAN tournament after coming out third at the inaugral 2009 edition in Ivory Coast.
