5yrs living and working in SA-one qualifies for Permanent Residencr AND gets an ID that clearly indentifies one as a non SA citizen. 10yrs living and working in SA-one qualifies as a citizen and must renounce one nationality if their country does not allow dual citizenship. Then you get an ID that identifies you as such….and you can vote and get SA passport.
That said, for both you qualify and not guaranteed to be granted by your tenure of stay. Zimbabwean ‘the Beast’ rugby player is a citizen who plays for the springboks. Has this guy got similar, exceptional skills that would push him ahead to citizenship? I just qualified for perm res so I know.
