Too Many Bars, Taverns at Mpatamatu Market

Dear Editor,

WHILE every Zambian has the right to either build a shop or anything provided the laid down procedures are followed, the mushrooming of drinking places at Mpatamatu market in Luanhsya is a source of great concern.

At the moment there are nearly 40 bars and taverns since almost every one wants to build a drinking place.
In spite of creating some employment, it may increase vices such as alcohol abuse and prostitution, not forgetting crime as some criminals will spend their pass time in the same bars as they wait to strike.

What the township needs is recreation centres where people will spend time – playing – without the presence of alcohol.

CONCERNED RESIDENT,
LUANSHYA.

pa zed wen something good happens, we drink to celebrate. wen something bad happens, we drink to comfort ourselves. wen nothing happens, we drink while waiting for anything. Awe guys we cant go on living like this can we all meet at corner bar to discuss the way forward? we may just find a solution and drink to it

My grand pa used to live ther, my father was born ther and i was born and raised ther. Educated at Nkulumashiba primary, Secondary Mpeti.Am surprised dat my township has become like dat. I saw da same situation in Chipulukusu ND. Taverns without toilets only utulusasa fye utwa unisex. Wati uleyamo wasanga na mayo naimya ichitenge kunuma ale posa amenshi, ati ba brother loleleniko panono. Lilya waigila fye naumbi aisa ulubilo natitikishiwa afulama ati bandume munjeleleko mwiloleshako. Honourable Kambwili do something, the councils er not doing anything.

Awe mwandi, am also very concerned becoz uto tu ma tavern twabafye kunuma ya Mpatamatu secondary school. Am telling its difficult to get the attention of pupils wen teaching becoz of the non stop music which plays so loudly, busy teaching some pupils r busy singing along ati “walilowelela” or that famous song by B 1.Its terrible! His Honorable shud do something fast.

The issue of mushrooming bars and taverns must be addressed. Alcohol leads to the spread of AIDS, GBV and possibly some acts of homosexual abuse,it must be tackled quickly.
