Orlando Pirates have confirmed striker Collins Mbesuma will be out for at least one month with an ankle injury, heightening the surprise at his inclusion in the Zambia squad for World Cup duty next week.
Mbesuma has been named by coach Herve Renard in the 26-man squad to prepare for the crucial encounter against Ghana in a world cup qualifier on September 6.
He picked up an injury earlier this month when Pirates beat SuperSport United on post-match penalties in the quarterfinal of the MTN8 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
Mbesuma went off early in the match and has missed two games for the club since the 4-1 home drubbing of Zamalek in the African Champions League and the victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the first leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Soccer city on Saturday.
He did not travel with the team to Egypt on Tuesday for their return match with Zamalek this Sunday but at the same time got a call-up for international duty.
Pirates coach Roger de Sa said he did not expect Mbesuma back in action until the end of September.
Zambia must beat Ghana in Kumasi to win the group and advance to the last phase of African qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

So our coaching staff were not aware that the player is injured! This explain a lot of things about our coaches!

Orlando Pirates were claiming the injury was not bad, how come they are talking about till end of September now? He was only going to be sidelined for 2 games or so.

I’m in RSA. The reports here are that Mbesuma injuries are aggravated in part to his being over weight (heavy).
They have seconded a nutritionist to monitor his diet at his home. They are concerned that his weight problems like McCarthy Benni had is worsening and Mbesuma is not doing enough to reduce his weight.
too much shakers and Ifitumbuwa nga aisa pa Zambia.

Injured Mbesuma in his current state is better than Christopher Katongo.i would love Mbesuma to be maintained on the squad despite being injured than having Katongo who does but only waste time.

the problem with our coaches is that they do not monitor the performance of all our players no wonder they are finding themselves in this position. i know pirates claimed the player had a minor injury and would come back soon but if we are so serious about winning in kumasi, we could have even sent kabango to go and do his own assessment of the player. it seems to me we just know the names and when it comes to picking the team, we pick names regardless of ones performance. take for example chivuta’s performance against lesotho and sudan, can you explain how he was picked when we saw what thomas nyirenda did against zimbabwe even though we lost? pa last ndeloleshafye!!!

Thomas Nyrenda played very well against Zimbabwe. I feel he is better than the finished Noah Chivuta. Ba Coach please let us select players on merit! Napapa sana!
