SPORTS deputy minister Steven Masumba says his dancing is none of anyone’s business.
And Masumba says he was just trying to advocate that it is normal to see government officials like himself identifying with the arts through dancing.
In an interview on Tuesday, Masumba said people condemning him for dancing with Werrason’s dancing queen should go to hell.
Masumba was pictured dancing with Werrason’s dancing queen during a performance at Livingstone’s Chrismar Hotel on Saturday.
His picture was shared on social media, and several people described his action as disgraceful while others called for his dismissal.
And Fred Nkhuwa, a reader of The Post, wondered whether Masumba takes time to reflect on the example he is setting, knowing the status he occupies in society.
Nkhuwa said Masumba should know by now that he is a role model to many young people, and as such must show high levels of personal integrity and possess moral leadership if he is to be respected.
“The honorable should know that by definition, a leader is one who guides, who shows the way by example. But looking at that picture, one tends to ask what moral leadership the minister is trying to portray, or is it that he is experiencing such enjoyments this time and he cannot see anything wrong in what he is doing? Or what example is he teaching his juniors in his ministry, more seriously, what he is teaching his children? These are questions that crossed my mind when I just saw the picture in today’s front page, and because it is not the first time we have seen such pictures of him in the print media,” said Nkhuwa.
“I am saying this not because I hold anything against him but because we expect him to show total respect of himself in moral leadership. For we know that him being a minister and a leader, he’s not expected to be seen doing what society will perceive to be immoral and irresponsible.”
But Masumba said his dancing was none of anyone’s business because he was not married to those criticising him.
“As I speak now, there is no confusion at home. She his wife is not embarrassed in any way. If they don’t know how to dance themselves, let them go to hell. I am not the kind that boasts and feels even when they are invited on the dance, they cannot dance with people, no! Werrason came to me and said ‘sir we hear you are the minister, please come and dance’. Why should I say no when we are the same government which is actually championing tourism, culture and arts?” said Masumba.
He said since the show was held during the period that Livingstone was hosting the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), as a leader, he felt the need to be in the forefront to attract people.
“I was just trying to advocate that it is normal to see government officials like myself actually showing the arts arrangement through dancing. We don’t just want to use theories by just making pronouncements but we want to show that we can also perform. I just wanted to welcome those people and give them a good welcome so that they know that government is in support of them,” he said.
Masumba said soon, people would be seeing more action from him because the formation of his band was on the cards.
He claimed he was a musician by profession.
“It is not something that should worry people very much. My house is as stable as anything. Those condemning are suffering from political malnutrition and because of this, they want to make a big issue out of small things like a dance,” said Masumba.

Women will always be women regardless of their gender movements. Not even one has condemned this dress code on the dance floor and you say gender, what gender rubbish! You shall have to submit to man.

To me as a Mufumbwe resident, I deeply regret casting my vote for this ******, senseless, premature warthog. if President sata is reasonable enough he must drop this character for he is a great disappointment to the constituency, party and country at large. President, remember that you made steven kneel down to apologise to the people of mufumbwe over this same behavior – what is he doing again? I will thank my God if this unqualified accountant will be arrested by the court of law for the forged ACCA diploma. this will serve the people of mufumbwe from this disgrace. better have a dog for an MP than steven masumba.

Kakoma watama muchima nankashi. You shud have condemned the dress code before it arrived in the country than unlishing your personal angers on this young man. Please let the guy alone. That is the right time to dance like that than when you’re in your 70s. Kweyi dihang’enimu. Hang’anang’a chochenochu.
