Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard says Southampton flop Emmanuel Mayuka’s move to French Ligue One outfit Sochaux will give him a lifeline as he hopes to rediscover the form that took him to the pinnacle of his game in 2012 at the Africa Cup.
Mayuka, who has been loaned to Sochaux, after a fruitless one year stay in London that saw him play only four games accounting for one goal against lower division Barnsley City in a the league Cup.
“It should be good for him I hope,” Renard said.
“Sochaux is one team fighting to stay in the Premier League in France, so I am sure he will play.”
He said the move could help Mayuka improve his game.
“It won’t be easy but it will give him a lot of improvement,” he said.
Mayuka became the second Zambian player of the modern generation to play in England but like his compatriot Collins Mbesuma who had signed for Portsmouth in 2004 came short of the demands of the Premier League.
Other Zambian players to have made stops in France albeit unsuccessfully are Felix Katongo, Jonas Sakuwaha, Stophilla Sunzu and Rainford Kalaba.
Jacob Mulenga stepped his game whilst playing for Chateroux and won the faith of Dutch side FC Utrecht who snapped him.
