Solwezi Municipal Council ..the most expensive
Dear Editor,
Allow me space to air my observations on the operations of Solwezi municipal council. In the last 3years that i have stayed in this district i have observed that this is one of the most expensive councils in the country…reasons as below 1. The plots are not below K8,000 regardless of the area.
This is disadvantaging the locals who can not afford the charges. Its difficult to tell which is customary or state land. People are finding themselves buying customery land which is within reach and only to see bulldozers coming to pull the structures down.
The council should demarcate High,medium,low and commercial plots and price them differently. Since I came to Solwezi there has never been low or medium plots offered by the council. The weigh bridge and Humphrey Mulemba villa plots are the only plots the council has given out in the past 3 years and the same are surrounded by controversy with chiefs. 2. Fussiness permits are expensive.
The cheapest permit is K600 which for a Kantemba and the highest is K5,000. This has resulted in many people trading on roadsides and vehicles making the town unnecessarily congeste.
Despite collecting all these monies not forgetting rates from the mines, one wonders where the money goes since Solwezi has remained as ancient as the asante kingdom of Ghana with ndumbwi toilets and many houses which are UN-electrified. Town planning is something you should not even talk about. You will find paths passing through homes…no sanitary roads, no labelled roads, houses not in order and faces anywhere with a lot of un-vaccinated dogs in the yards, how i wish those dogs were village chickens.
PLEASE can the powers that be look into the upright of this town which is currently the national bread basket
