The Media Liaison Committee (MLC) has expressed displeasure at the alleged continued harassment of journalists at public media institutions by some senior government officials.
Committee chairperson Mickie Mumba says media reports suggesting that Justice Minister and Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has been threatening with dismissal some journalists and media heads from among the three public media institutions is unfortunate and retrogressive.
Mr. Mumba says such reported threats from Mr. Kabimba is also setting bad precedent as the media and the government is seemingly perceived to be quarrelling even when not much has been done to sustain media reforms in the country.
Mr. Mumba notes that senior government officials must not be seen to be antagonizing the media in this way when the country is at the verge of making media reforms.
Mr. Mumba has also called on the other media bodies in the country to condemn any harassment against the media in the country.
