Low Crowds Displease Hakainde Hichilema

Dear Editor,

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was less than impressed with the below par attendance of the local people at his party’s rally in Mandevu Constituency in Lusaka, but still went ahead to assure the crowd that the UPND will reverse the PF government’s decision to remove subsidies on fuel and maize meal for consumption.
In a speech filled with classic Zambian political rhetoric, Hichilema accused the PF of having failed to do this and that, and having done this and that wrong.
“PF has failed to create full time pensionable jobs but are only creating piecework,” the UPND leader told a crowd consisting mostly of non-Mandevu residents, who were ferried from places as far as Bweengwa in Southern Province.
Sources allege after the rally, Hichilema lamented to his colleagues at the indifference shown by the people of Mandevu, a constituency with nearly 150,000 registered voters.
The UPND chose to stage the rally in Mandevu particularly because it is seen as the centre of discontent against the PF government due to the non performance of the ruling party’s area Member of Parliament, Jean Kapata, whose chances of retaining the seat in 2016 are in serious doubt.

Do not be blinded by age or generational gap. According to their constitution that is UP-END,Hakainde’s tenure expires in 2016 before pipo even cast their votes. He might be young quite right but that is not an automatic passport to presidency. Stop cogitating like a grade 7 chap.

On the whole, if Zambia is to make strides in development we need a young, educated and progressive person for president. The 21st Century is not time to have a fossil in State House.

Pama Fi (PF) is in shit. First of all people of Zambia are not happy because of the dis-unity in the PF (which is affecting the governance of the country), civil servants strikes, councils strike, Bashi Lubemba impasse, Barotseland uprising, collapsing economy that is now surviving on borrowing, rising cost of living and many others. Plus the health of that dinosaur at state house.
So lets not attack HH as a person, but look at the policies and the message. Every tribe in Zambia can rule, and its not appointed that only one or two tribes are to rule Zambia. Uku itemwa mwe fi bantu.

Considering HH’s back ground and his past performance, he has more work to do than Micheal Chilufya Sata had when he was in the opposition. It is a different ball game for HH who has never held a government position to be trusted by ordinary Zambians (majority of voters).
Secondly, he also has to adjust his stance and speak politics. He has to state the failures of PF and give alternative solutions, currently this is missing.
Further, HH should learn that criticising everything the Pf government does takes away from him as all his criticism is frowned at by most people. This also led to the ruling party in the past (MMD) and currently PF referring to him as being bitter.
There is need for HH to surround himself with strategists to help him rise to the challenge.
As for me as an intellectual, I believe he would perform given a chance.
