Following Tumfweko‘s publication of an article on the inadequacy poor commentary exhibited by ZNBC’s Innocent Kalaluka and Frank Tembo during Supersport’s MTN League broadcasts, Multichoice has responded that removing the duo is not the solution but instead Zambians should suggest names of individuals they feel can do better commentary.
Below is the Statement sent;
We have been receiving a number of queries on social media and through print media on the standards of commentary on the Zambian Super League. On behalf of SuperSport and MultiChoice Zambia we would like to correct the impression created that we have turned a blind eye to the concerns raised.
SuperSport in partnership with ZNBC will continue improving the standards of local football and this includes training local cameramen and women, directors, presenters and commentators in a bid to promote and strengthen the local selection of personnel in Zambia. Currently we are using 2 commentators in Zambia and we hope to increase this number to 4 next season.
As SuperSport, it would also be good feedback if concerned subscribers/ soccer fans can suggest names of those they think can do commentary for possible consideration.
Plans to introduce local language commentary is underway and this will be communicated to the Zambian Public. We are looking at starting local commentary next season.
We appreciate that a lot of Zambians are now following the Zambian Super League and this was the rationale behind SuperSport’s investment in Zambia. Asking us to remove our current commentators is not the solution but making sure that we nurture them and groom them so that they perfect their commentary will be our focus. We want to empower Zambians in doing local production which includes commentary and it takes time to reach the levels of Kevan Evans for instance, who has been doing commentary for the past 15 years.

Just place an advert on ZNBC and run interviews you lazy people. Super Sport did it for rugby. The are more qualified people who know football a lot better than people in ZNBC.
