Following Tumfweko‘s publication of an article on the inadequacy poor commentary exhibited by ZNBC’s Innocent Kalaluka and Frank Tembo during Supersport’s MTN League broadcasts, Multichoice has responded that removing the duo is not the solution but instead Zambians should suggest names of individuals they feel can do better commentary.
Below is the Statement sent;
We have been receiving a number of queries on social media and through print media on the standards of commentary on the Zambian Super League. On behalf of SuperSport and MultiChoice Zambia we would like to correct the impression created that we have turned a blind eye to the concerns raised.
SuperSport in partnership with ZNBC will continue improving the standards of local football and this includes training local cameramen and women, directors, presenters and commentators in a bid to promote and strengthen the local selection of personnel in Zambia. Currently we are using 2 commentators in Zambia and we hope to increase this number to 4 next season.
As SuperSport, it would also be good feedback if concerned subscribers/ soccer fans can suggest names of those they think can do commentary for possible consideration.
Plans to introduce local language commentary is underway and this will be communicated to the Zambian Public. We are looking at starting local commentary next season.
We appreciate that a lot of Zambians are now following the Zambian Super League and this was the rationale behind SuperSport’s investment in Zambia. Asking us to remove our current commentators is not the solution but making sure that we nurture them and groom them so that they perfect their commentary will be our focus. We want to empower Zambians in doing local production which includes commentary and it takes time to reach the levels of Kevan Evans for instance, who has been doing commentary for the past 15 years.
Regards,
Marlon Kananda

October 9, 2013 at 10:31 am
these guys do not first of all listen to other commentators like ss3a etc and learn the tricks. it is one thing to be original and it is also a **** up not to accept the inadequacy. listen to super spot. You two that is the reason you are given these programmes to improve. You are the only ones at ZNBC who do not improve.

flanklin tembo jnr is trainable not the other big headed kalaluka. The other way is to advertise then do audition. That is my suggestion

October 9, 2013 at 3:33 pm
You think exactly like I do. Sport on. Create separate jobs in Zambia because those guys already have jobs at ZNBC. Convin auditions and you will be amazed at the talent in Zambia. There is chaps who went to good schools who do nothing but can speak the laguage so sweetly(ba some of us) like he is running a commentary.

A recently i see a add or was competition on Super sport where they were calling for people who have commenting skills to come and show case them. Now if they did that in south africa then they knew that it is because, these kind of jobs come not that you are humorous or becuz you have a better command of some language, but it’s because one must have some talent(interest) for the job. Now we your subscribers who pay for that service want to tell you to do the same here in Zambia, than answering that we look for two reps. what your marketing department doing?? a spade is just a spade

PHD at play. The guys are just okay. They may make mistakes here and there with names, but who knows all these villages boys in Zambian teams? You cant even google them to find more information making the life of a commentator hellish

October 9, 2013 at 3:36 pm
Just because you can’t research does not mean that all names are not searchable. Use the Village headmen search engine. lol!

@ Removing the duo is not a solution says the Author
to me it shows that even if the general public came out with sound and Qualifield names suppersport will not get rid of the 2 boring unexperienced guys instead they would keep the two subjecting the General public to the same staff we are complaining at.my question to mr Kananda is where do suppersport get the money to ran the affairs and pay the two?…
if its from the general public then there is need to listen to our cry

MATIMBA NKONJE IS THE MAN
I propose Matimba Nkonje. He parternered some of those football commentators during the 2010 world cup in south Africa and did a fantastic job in my view. Why didn’t you multichoice pick him in the first place? Or is the usual issue that he doesnt come from your area?
