CHIPOLOPOLO star players, Rainford Kalaba, Nathan Sinkala and Stoppila Sunzu have landed themselves US$20, 000 (about K106,000) each as winning bonuses despite missing TP Mazembe’s 1-0 win over Stade Malien in the CAF Confederation Cup at the weekend.

The Zambian trio, who were cleared by the Immigration Department of any wrong doing, are now in for a cash bonanza at their Democratic Republic of Congo club, where in excess of $20,000 will be splashed on each one of them as bonuses.

This ‘independence’ gift for Sunzu, Kalaba and Sinkala comes hot on the heels of a controversy.

The trio had their passports confiscated by the Immigration Department last Friday following allegations that they had crossed into Congo without going through exit formalities.

Mazembe decided to reward Sunzu, Kalaba and Sinkala full winning bonuses despite missing last weekend’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup semi-final clash against Stade Malien of Mali in Lubumbashi.

Club president, Moise Katumbi said the Chipolopolo trio deserved to be paid the same winning bonuses given to all players at Mazembe after qualifying to the Confederation Cup final because it was not their fault that they missed the Stade Malien return leg.

Katumbi said the trio were sick and injured and that their passports were withheld by the Zambian immigration authorities.

The Katanga Province Governor was happy that the issues surrounding the three players had ended and thanked the Zambian Government, through Home Affairs Minister, Edgar Lungu for intervening in the matter.

He said Mazembe were now looking forward to welcoming back the trio in the fold as Patrice Carteron’s charges prepare for next month’s two-legged Confederation Cup final against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.

Another Chipolopolo defender, Hichani Himoonde played for Mazembe in the match the Congolese side won 1-0.

And Sunzu said he would not take any action against anyone who could have wronged him during the period they were appearing before the immigration officers.

The Chipolopolo defender said he would firstly reflect on the whole episode before forgiving anyone who could have wronged him.

Midfield ace Kalaba said he was itching to return to duty at Mazembe and help the club win the Confederation Cup next month.

Is that the private jet TPM bought for the team? its a pretty lousy jet if you ask me.

Well the guys got paid even if they didn’t play, not sure this is actually news. 90% of Goverment employees in Zambia get paid every single month for years and yet do literary nothing, now that is news.

I said and it has come to pass. The truth has prevailed and the boys are in big money. All those haters who posted nasty comments against these boys where are you? You must be chocking with envy right now. The bible says he who hates his brother is a murderer. May the good Lord however forgive you and me. Hate and jealous doesn’t build. None of us will benefit a cent from their money but lets all wish them success.

‘No one EATS patriotism’!!! Katumbi, way to go..If it was the boys would have stopped playing for the Zambia national. But as you know National Team appearances are crucial if one wants to join big clubs especially in Europe.

People are selfish! How many former Chipolopolo players are in our compound suffering? Who has shown them patriotism? Please, soccer players have a very short carrier, the more and the faster you make your money the better! Brazian game bonus ($1300) and at your team ($20000). Who will say country first? Leave them alone!

National Team need to be paid encouraging money for them to be loyal.Look at TP Mazembe they gave our players USD20,000 as winning bonus not even our National Team as ever gotten that.On top of that you chew their hard earned money. This is a wake up call

I hope these boys will one day realise that their are greater benefits in football…$20,000 is such a small amount for good players like sunzu!I know of a kenyan footballer that gets that amount on a weekly basis in the EPL! He is not as good as any of our boys but has set his sights higher! Who knows what they could have shown the would against the mighty brazil! They think katumbi likes them but he is in it for himself…I fill sorry for them
