Drama in Court: Newstead Zimba’s Wife Collapses After She Lost Family House Following Divorce

Naomi Mbewe collapsed in the court room after court grants divorce

Naomi Mbewe, wife of Newstead Zimba collapsed shortly after the Lusaka Boma court granted the couple divorce.
Ms. Mbewe broke into tears and fell to the ground inside the court room shortly after the judge ruled that the family house located at Number 2 Nalikwanda Road, Woodlands will be owned by Mr. Zimba.
The court had earlier ruled that Ms. Mbewe will get the beauty training school she jointly owns with Mr. Zimba and a Nissan Xtrail, one of the two family vehicles.
The judge also allowed Mr. Zimba to keep custody of the couple’s youngest child while the two children aged 17 and 19 will choose whom they will stay with.
But a sobbing Ms. Mbewe interjected the Judge arguing that it is unfair for Mr. Zimba to keep the family house while she gets the beauty training school which is now non-operational.
The court however advised Ms. Mbewe to appeal against the judgment if she is not satisfied.
Relatives, friends and well-wishers were on hand to help Ms. Mbewe to her feet and later whisked her away.
The couple got married in 1993 and has three children.
Newstead Zimba served as cabinet Minister in the MMD administration under the late Dr. Chiluba and later served as Ambassador to Sweden in the Mwanawasa administration.

As harsh as the judgment may be in Naomi’s mind from a neutral point of view it sounds fair. Mr. Zimba has children from the previous marriage and so once the house goes to Naomi these children lose out completely. But If Mr. Zimba keeps the house all the children including ones with Naomi benefit too. Naomi can still sell the property allocated to her and build or buy her own house. All the best to all involved.

You are very right my friend. The court was fair here. Mr Zimba bought the house for the benefit of his entire family. That includes children from the first wife. Naomi miscalculated. I am sure she was misadvised by her friends. You cant divorce someone and expect to grab everything from him.

Those are the effects of Divorce, God hates Divorce and these are the results of Divorce. People need to stick to their vows which are meant to be for life. If the marriage covenant is broken the results are bad…sorry for the outcome of this marriage. The could have sought for reconciliation to avoid such a public embarrassment.
    May God Restore them. AMEN

The problem is that this particular lady grabbed a marriage from another person. The court did well to let zimba take the house so that everybody benefits. I feel bad for her thou.

Fair ba judge, the problem with ladies especially those looking for marriages want men who are well established a result end up with married ones thinking they are more special than their wives, cause the marriage to end, when it is their turn to be divorced they want to reap where they did not sow. I remember how this ka maggie girl wanted me to leave my marriage by insulting me because she was pregnant for my husband when I was not fit for sex. Well ,God strengthened me to over the trial and gave her no room, thank God my husband realised his mistake we reconciled and in the end she is the one with the shame.I advice fellow married woman to be strong in this club, its not easy

Do you remember your ka photo in the Post Newspaper where Mrs Zimba came to your house and harassed you whilst in a bathtowel? So now that Mr Zimba is very old and probably broke, you want to milk him of every sent and property and then leave him? Naomi you have no shame….just thank God that you even got something from that marriage. As for Mr Zimba, just go back to your wife and apologize. Imagine the pain and embarrassment you had caused that woman. She must be laughing her lungs out by now!!!

I agree with Nebo. You ave summed it up nicely for all readers. The House goes to Mr. Zimba. I once kept Zimba’s son in Joburg for a year as he was a destitute and could have been killed. This is all because of the many relations that Mr. Zimba had. If Mr. Zimba had maintained one marriage as God desires, none of this would ever have happened. So please work on your marriages people to avoid such embarrasment in public. At the time, Mr. Zimba was a cabinet minister earning loads of cash but no care for his own kids, I was told he even forgets the names of some of the kids he has. Shame shame shame…!!

okay then.. we are looking at ama hule yabili in this case and that they deserve each other. Personally am more appalled at Naomi becouse i have high regard for all females and expect them to be wise/above blame when it comes to such matters. Men are proven to be very unreliable and our ladies need be encouraged to be economically independent/education and skill, to avoid being tossed around at a mans discretion. Naomi lost her youth to this old man and now feels cheated, She’s now wiser and is trying to correct a wrong with a wrong. However she should be congratulated for not killing the old fool.

Newstead Zimba and Chiluba refused to be bullied by KK. This man has come a long way from his days as a trade unionist and hence deserves our respect when most of us were folding our tails between our legs. I worked with Naomi at Finance Bank and she was driving some mammoth Toyota SUV where she literally needed a ladder to get in the driver’s seat. Mukazi uyu kunzimvela too much! Anyway what goes around comes around. This judgement was fair as far as I ‘m concerned. The premise for this marriage was wrong because it was based on Mr. Zimba’s status from day one. Naomi shot herself in the foot by bringing in irrelevant evidence of STD and maids in the public domain. She should have left it at irreconcilable differences. U see now kolapusi!

Judge Madam Walusiku should learn from this judgement and be fare in her rulings. My nephews and nieces were denied out-right ownership of their father’s house
This is the brief story. My brother was working for Zambia Railways from 1988, and bought a house from the company in Lusaka after the sale of houses. In 2000 he was transferred to Kalomo, where the same year lost a wife. He had five children, three girls and two sons. The house was on rent in Lusaka. In 2004, he re-married and in the same year re-located back to Lusaka after losing a job with his company. He never went to stay in his house but started renting a smaller house so that his actual house could be a source of income while looking for another job.
Unfortunately, he died on Jan 6, 2005 without having a child with the woman in question. The family gave her ALL the house hold-goods. The woman went further demanding the house. By then she was already married again. The learned Judge Walusiku gave her the house ignoring the judgment from Matero Boma Local court. May the Lord be judge in this matter and each time I hear Walusiku making a ruling, I lose interest.

And to all gold diggers, the is a special place in Gods plans for people like you. To Mr Zimba, I am laughing at you sir without sympathy. And as for namoi, ndiwe hule chabe boyi.
