Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) Chief Executive officer Kishore Kumar has been deported.
Reports reaching QFM News indicate that Mr Kumar has been deported for defying President Michael Sata’s directive for the mining company not to layoff a single worker, after KCM went ahead to lay off 76 workers.
When contacted for a comment,Immigration Department public relations officer Namati Nshinka, told QFM that Mr Kumar left the country yesterday on his own without giving further details.
Mr Kumar had recently announced that KCM would lay off over 1,500 workers as they seek to mechanise their operations.
This announcement prompted President Sata to warn the mining giant not to dare lay off any worker or risk having its mining license revoked.
And MMD president Nevers Mumba has accused President Michael Sata of abusing his office by deporting the KCM chief executive officer.
Dr Mumba says issues such as the one involving KCM cannot be resolved by deporting people.
He says the best way is for government to sit down with KCM management and union representatives and find the way forward.
Dr Mumba says such heavy-handed tactics may result in the loss of even more jobs.
And vice president Guy Scott when asked in parliament today what immediate measures government would take against KCM for going against the presidential directive said he expected tough measures to be taken.

Mr. Nevers Mumba, what solution are u talking about. KCM chief executive officer had become big headed after stealing so much money through taxi evasion. His arrogance has cost him deportation…let him go and be born again so that wn he comes back, he shall have a heart for Zambian miners. Why didn’t he retrench his fellow indians who are being paid huge salaries? Ba Mumba u need to have a heart for the suffering poor miners…

The 76 employees were on contract of 1 year and were terminated last month well before the directive of the President.
Govt must have shushus at KCM to establish the truth. They seem to have none as of now.

KCM did not bring anything to Zambia; they only came to take what we have. Extraction industry is not real investment ba Nevers. We shouldn’t even plead with these guys. Those who truly need our minerals will come and do it on our terms.

IN RSA, PHALABORWA MINE, THEY USE MEHANISED,VERY FEW EMPLOYEES WHITH VERY HIGH PRODUCTION. IN MOST GOD MINES, THEY USE TRADITIONAL METHODS OF MINING.PRODUCTION IS REASONABLE WHITH A LOT OF PEOLPE IN EMPLOYMENT. NOW ZAMBIANS CHOOSE BETWEEN THE TWO.

These indians came into our country found everything in place.Talk of offices, residence, machines though some were outdated but the all truth is that they didn’t start from scratch, and look at way they treat us the owners of the land with all the qualifications we have. From the start they have been complaining, always trying to find ways to avoid paying tax.Let him GO..

I do doubt why even our government allowed the Indians to be investors in our mining sector! They can not run our mineral resources those people from poor Indian!
The president of Zambia means well, therefore, those condemning the president must think twice. I am of the idea that even our Government with its people can run Konkola Mines well than what is happening now by those brothers from India!
They come here poor and they go back to India rich. Actually some of them from here they do not go back to India instead they go to America!
We got back Zamtel even Konkola mines must be taken over…. Pamaka! Go one Micheal Sata, you are a man of the season!

Opposition part presidents were are you when your fellow zambian balebatakanya. This is when you opposition presidents are supposed to defend your fellow zambians. No one can justify retrenching 1500 workers. The only thing the opposition want is to make political issue out of this. Viva President Sata and PF. Na aleya, tukalafukala umukuba kuminye.

I have worked for KCM for 10 yrs as a senior man at corporate offices here at nchanga mine but first hand infomation i see makes me to support the president, those people that are justing commenting withou actually coming to Chingola and see for yourself how people are living and not to talk of how the skeleton KCM is now from COP F to open pit you may shed tears,
Our wives now apply Transformer oil as lotion because of poor salaries, every graduate from Unza to KCM is forced to get a loan to help himself and they only take 2 months for them to go join Lumwana or Kasanshi e,g Geologists.
So for one Mr Magande to support Indians that do not use tissue paper to clean their bottoms be it a Kumar or a Patel really makes me wonder,

I am just very disappointed with pastor Nevers Mumba. His comments shows that the MMD has nothing to offer the Zambians. No wonder the past regime had lost touch with the people on the ground and continued building castles in the air and garavanting the globe. As a pastor, he should be more people friendly than being attached to the rich.
