ATM Card Schemers On The Loose, Zanaco Customers Watch Out

ATMZANACO Bank Plc has cautioned its customers to be wary of card schemers when performing transactions at the bank’s automated teller machines (ATMs).
This follows an alert notice that the bank has experienced the problem of card scheming which involves someone fraudulently copying account details of another person using an external device to enable them access another person’s account.
Bank communications manager Maria Karima said card scheming has become rampant in Africa and Zambia is not an exception.
Ms Karima, however, assured customers that the bank’s system is secure and protected by firewalls.
These radical measures put in place makes it impossible for untrusted sources to gain access to the network.
The Sunday Mail recently carried a story on the fraudulent activities involving ATMs cards.
“Following the story in the Sunday Mail of October 27, 2013 under the heading ‘Fraudsters hack Zanaco accounts, siphon money’, management [Zanaco] wishes to inform its esteemed customers and the public that contrary to what was reported, what happened in this case was card scheming and not hacking,” Ms Karima said.
She said all customers who were affected by such activities of card scheming had their problem expeditiously resolved.
She appealed to Zanaco customers to watch out for strangers while transacting at ATMs and to also report any suspicious looking objects and occurrences they may notice within the ATM vicinity.
Ms Karima also urged Zanaco clients to cancel unsuccessful transactions whenever the ATMs are not operating properly and that they should always cover the keypad with the other hand to ensure no one sees their pin during the course of transacting.
Further, the bank has cautioned customers to desist from asking strangers or security personnel manning the ATM to help with the transactions.

There have been cases of several Bulgarians arrested in Kenya and Tanzania for Card Scheming offences from bank ATMs.. Bulgarians are known all over the world for their prowess in Card Fraud (just google it)…

So, next time you see some random white guy fooling around at an ATM, quickly alert the authorities.. when and if they are caught, you will be surprised at how many cards they will be carrying…
