Trollip: Mufulira’s Gospel Music Hope

Hope-TrollipUNSUNG, but talented gospel music artiste Hope Trollip has finally come out to claim her rightful place; to popularise her rich music and claim what she deserves.

Speaking to Sunday Times Entertainment during the week in Mufulira, renowned in the music circles as Hope of the Landeni Ishiwi 2012 hit said she was pleased to come out and talk about the development of music in Zambia, admitting principally that the country has reached unprecedented levels in music.

“Zambian music has matured to high levels giving us the feeling that we are getting somewhere,” Hope said.

Landeni Ishiwi , the album’s title is a lamentation, a devotion, allegiance and dedication to God’s faith, a tuneful song that seeks guidance through God’s hand. Some lyrics go, ‘Your word, God is the light in my path, I try to work hard, but fail…I fail to live like one in God’s word; your promise is to guide, show and through my hands, I will find direction with whatever I touch and hold…”

In another melody, Wilalila, an inspirational harmony a slow beat followed by melodious singing in which Hope, a blond and straw-coloured extols Joshua and Anna as unique people as prescribed in the Bible.

Mung’anda , is a reggae tune with s a lone strumming guitar while the singing is well balanced with the call for people join God’s kingdom as a place of comfort.

Other songs are Isomone, Twamipela Amalumbo, Naitula, Takwaba Umbi and Lolela Amapalo.

Born in Ndola’s Itawa area 33 years ago, Hope defined her life history as deceitful and troubled, but that she had found her feet in gospel music and was now living happily.

The melodious singer, whose songs are commonly mistaken for other gospel singers like Rebecca, Mulusa and Suwilanji said all her songs reflected reality, trust in God, courage, healing and faith.

“I started singing at church at the Foundation of Faith whilst a small girl with so much encouragement from Pastor Chembe. After leaving for South Africa in 2000 I could not keep up with the singing though I did one song which stole the limelight, inspired me while in South Africa, and garnered my serious attention to composing and singing.”

Under Supershine Investment, a music Promoter who noticed her skills and co-opted her into their fold, Hope who returned to Zambia in 2008 after a ten-year stint in South Africa following her husband Damiano Mutale’s football exploits is pleased that she has taken music seriously and feeding from it.

Hope, whose father Mr Trollip is South African, said she has finally located him following numerous prayers and thanked God for the guidance.

The gospel singer who does not condemn circular music and appreciated music from P K Chishala, Masasu band, Paul Ngozi and others said she merely despised music that corrupted morals as well as music which was in bad taste to the ear.

On the piracy issue, the little known Hope Trollip said she recognised government’s efforts through the introduction of holograms in ensuring musicians benefited from their creativity and inventiveness.

I was touched by her testmony which she shared when she visited our church in Mufulira this year about how she allocated her father especially when she said I came to know my father last year.I looked at her age and the time she came to know her father the difference was just too big. I almost cried because she was in similar situation am in. My father past away when I was still very young I did not see him but he saw me. I completed school and now am at college God willing I will be completing next year as a secondary teacher but up now I know non of my relatives from my father’s side. But I believe one day God will review them to me and put us together in His owm time.

Thank God that she has finally found her biological father. Ba tumfweko, this gospel singer is surprised to be adressed as Hope Mutale. She is happily married to Damiano Mutale, a well known football admistrator.
yes, she is a very talented gospel singer.
May the Lord our God continue blessing her and her family. may He continue taking care of her voice.
