Kalu Tells Ex-Footballers Not to Rush Into Coaching But Instead go To School

By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA –

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Kalusha Bwalya has advised former players against rushing into coaching.

Kalusha said players should go through coaching schools to prepare for the big role.

Kalusha-BwalyaHe said in an interview in Lusaka that just like any other field, people needed to be trained before they are handed any responsibilities especially that coaches get to deal with a huge human resource group.

Kalusha said training needs to be emphasised to follow modern trends unlike in the olden days when a player, who played football for a long time and was popular, was rushed to becoming a coach.

“In the olden days, just because one had played football for 10 years and was popular, the day you stop, there was a call to go and sit on the bench but I don’t think that is the right preparation for the job. We need to train our coaches first.

Like in any other field, you need training, to work in a bank, you need to be trained. To be an accountant or a lawyer, one needs to go to school and be trained. It’s same with coaches. One needs to know the levels of interaction with the many people they handle,” he said.

Kalusha, a former Chipolopolo coach, said coaches normally have a huge human resource group working under them, adding that seeing human beings they get to deal with, coaches needed to know how to handle the players and also the various challenges that comes with the job.

He said while it was his wish that former players remain in football either as coaches or administrators, it was important that they get the right and necessary education so that they can go further.

The FAZ chief’s sentiments come in wake of Confederations of African Football (CAF) A coaching Licensing course at City La Ville Lodge in Lusaka which has attracted 25 top Zambian coaches from within and outside the country.

The CAF A Licensing is the highest level of coaching qualification one can get under CAF with the 25 being trained having undergone the CAF C before the CAF, all firsts in Zambian football history

Brilliant statement Mr. Bwalya. On the same issue but different sport, has anyone seen Melissa Nawa’s coaching (Golf)degree or whatever credential(S) she has attained to coach? Just because one can play a particular sport does not make you a coach. Please post your academic achievements for all to see… MELISSA NAWA.
P/s. It is NGGA not Ngga.
