Another By-Election as Mkushi South Parliamentary Seat is Nullified

The Mkushi South Parliamentary seat that was held by opposition MMD’s Sydney Chisanga has been nullified by the Supreme Court.
This is in a matter in which losing Mkushi South 2011 Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Davies Chisopa appealed against the High Court ruling which upheld Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) candidate Sydney Chisanga as duly elected after a petition.

Passing Judgment this morning Supreme Court Judge Elizabeth Muyovwe said Mr. Chisanga had breached the electoral law by among other things making donations to women’s clubs in the area where an election was due and at the time that Parliament was dissolved.

Judge Muyovwe further notes a cow was also slaughtered at a rally that Mr. Chisanga held for people that attended to eat in same period that an election in the area was to take place.

And speaking shortly after the judgment was passed, Mr. Chisopa said he find the judgment fair going by the grounds that he made the appeal against the High Court ruling over his petition.

Mr. Chisopa says he is also ready to re-contest the seat but that he will have to go through the party guidelines of adoption if he is to stand on the PF ticket.

Pf we ar tired of by-elections coz negative impacts av increased. 1) job freeze. 2) removal of subsid. 3) projects pause. I wish all constituencies wich wil av by-elections to follow the examples of chipata central & mukaika by-elections.

Electrical malpractices were so massive by the MMD. I mean it was unprecedented, had never happened before in the History of this Country. So the Supreme Court is right to nullify the election. The lower court is the one that has a problem because it was there for us all to see. So please stop blaming Sata

How on earth can we gloss over such madness which was perpetuated by the MMD. Even a small child could see that it was not right. So those of you who want to try to mislead us to make us think that all went well, that’s wishful thinking. If anything most if not all seats must be

The key now is the change in the Constitution; atleast this may bring a bit of sanity in as far as by-elections are concerned. Those who are supporting PF in this instance, just be honest how many by-elections have we had since PF took over power? Uncountable!!! This is the worst Government in the history of Zambia. My fingers are itching and I cant wait to vote in 2016…infact its very far!!!

Why not call for general election?Alot of money has been spent on by election which could have been used to develop Zambia.
