Mazabuka Man, 23 Rapes Disabled Woman, 78
A 23-YEAR-OLD man of Zambia compound in Mazabuka has been arrested for raping a 78-year-old disabled woman of the same area.
Southern Province assistant commissioner of police Kashif Mphande, confirmed the incident and identified the man as Musa Mulanzi, unemployed, of an unknown abode in Mazabuka.
Mphande said the victim was raped in the early hours of yesterday.
“The incident happened about 45 minutes after midnight when Mulanzi, who is believed to have been drunk at the time of the incident, broke into the victim’s house and raped her. The victim is a crippled woman of Zambia compound and she lives alone in the house. The victim was sleeping when Mulanzi broke into her house,” Mphande said.
He said Mulanzi was only caught after neighbours heard the victim shouting for help.
“The suspect was apprehended by neighbours and he is currently in police custody. The victim was rushed to Mazabuka General Hospital but she is back home after being examined by the doctors,” Mphande said.
He said it was unfortunate that an old woman had to go through such an awful experience at the hands of a young man.
“It is just unfortunate that something like this is happening in our country. I just don’t know what is happening with our young men nowadays. It is very unfortunate that the woman had to go through something like this,” said Mphande.
