Unregistered Sims Face Blackout – ZICTA

Zambia Information and Communications Technology (ZICTA) has reiterated that mobile phone subscribers who will not register their SIM cards by the deadline of 31st December will have mobile phone services disabled.

Speaking during the Editors media breakfast in Lusaka this morning, ZICTA Director General Margret Mudenda says the first service to be disabled will be the SMS platform before disconnecting other services.

Mrs Mudenda has since implored people who have not yet registered their sim cards to do so to avoid being disconnected.

Meanwhile Mrs Mudenda has reaffirmed ZICTA’s commitment to working closely with the media to enhance the pace of disseminating information across the country.

She says since inception, ZICTA has been bestowed with the responsibility of not only regulating the ICT and Postal sectors but also growing these sectors in addition to protecting the rights and interests of users.

She says it is in this regard that ZICTA realizes that their effort in executing their mandate is void if done without the appropriate tool of communication.

Mrs. Mudenda explains that the media is recognized as a vital tool that plays a pivotal role in disseminating information regarding the ICT and postal sectors.

She has further described 2013 as a great year for the authority.

And Mrs Mudenda says among the projects ZICTA embarked on this include the SIM card registration exercise, the national addressing system and post code project.

Only hope there will be no confusion as despite having the sims registered massages from service providers still continue to flow in. In some cases even after registering no confirmation of registration is received.

What ZICTA does not seem to realize is that there are 2 players in the successful completion of a sim card registration process. While a subscribers can take the trouble of going to an outlet to have their sims registered, their efforts amount to nothing if the network providers do not do their part of entering the data into their system. So before ZICTA inconveniences clients, they must find out what is going on with the providers like Zamtel who concentrated on filling in forms and only recently started capturing data! ZICTA please protect our interests

DISAPPOINTED good points. ZICTA is actually confusing us and at the same time it doesn’t protect us,why? ZICTA is saying blackouts after 31 december 2013,another one comes and say no it will go as far as 30 march 2014 so what does this mean? nobody answers. the explained no after 31 december you will not recieve certain services and what aview. From my own view ZICTA doesn’t protect any of us because if they do they would have querried AIRTEL over what they do in there business that is why i always say some of these organisation they make them to just chew our monies, how on earth can ZICTA not detect thta some of the promotions going on are stealling our money. MNT had an issues were some IT guy stole some money. Again something is happening at AIRTEL were they are saying 15 kwacha for internet for 24 hrs UNLIMITED when in the actual fact they only allocate 500 MB.I m ordering ZICTA to follow this issue up NOW Bcoz u are not doing your work just sitting and chewing the money for nothing.

MY QUESTION IS WHAT HAPPENS IF I COME WITH A NEW PHONE FROM ABROAD SINCE THEY WILL STOP REGISTERING THE SIM CARDS?
WILL THERE BE ANOTHER AUTONATIVE FOR PEOPLE ENTERING THE COUNTRY WITH UNREGISTERED SIM CARDS OR WHAT?
