The Technical Committee has bowed to government’s directive to print only 10 copies of the final draft constitution.
The Technical Committee had all along vowed not to sign the report on the final draft constitution until government allowed the printing of the required number of copies both for the government and the general public as stipulated in the terms of reference.
Committee Spokesperson Ernest Mwansa has told a media briefing that the decision to heed government’s directive is in order not to prolong the current constitution making process any further than it has taken.
Mr. Mwansa has also cited the lack of funds to print the intended number of copies to distribute to the Head of State and the public as part of the other reasons why his committee has decided to go against its term of reference.
Mr. Mwansa says it was the desire of his committee to have the final draft constitution distributed simultaneously in accordance with the mandate and the precedent set by previous constitution review commissions.
And Mr. Mwansa further disclosed that the 10 copies of the final draft constitution have not however been officially handed over to the Head of State but that arrangements are being done to schedule the date of doing so.
Meanwhile Mr. Mwansa has maintained that despite heeding to the directive to print only 10 copies of the draft, his committee should not be seen as siding with the government.
He was reacting to People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti who was also present at media briefing and sympathized with the Technical Committee for situation it has found itself in.
And United Party for National Development (UPND) vice president for administration Richard Kapita wondered how much it was that the Committee has failed to acquire to print the required copies of draft.

When it comes to printing of ballot papers, govt has enough money to print, but this time because it involves printing of ballot papers, technical committee and govt has no money to print the important country document. Mr Sata and all those involved will be held accountable for this. Time will tell and PF is not going to be on power forever. I made a silly mistake to vote for sata. I think it is high time we voted for young and fresh blood not abakote with memory lapses, he has forgotten what he campaigned for apapene.(constitution in 90 Days)may be ni 90 years.

Oposition must understand that its not the issue of being in oposition which is important , buts saving the country from being a failed state , there fore this is a call of duty to come together and fight the malaise and save mother Zambia. Come together all oposition and make a cabinet for the sake of saving this country.
