Rainford Kalaba has failed to make the final cut for the 2013 CAF African-based player award.
Also out of the race is his TP Mazembe club mate Tresor Mputu despite an outstanding display in the second leg of the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup final against CS Sfaxien of Tunisia that the DR Congo club won 2-1 in Lubumbashi but lost 3-2 on aggregate.
The Zambia midfielder tumbled on the final hurdle this time around after making the 2012 final three-man shortlist together with compatriot Stopilla Sunzu but were beaten to the prize by Egyptian Mohamed Aboutrika.
Aboutrika however has made the final cut where he is in the race for the African-based player award together with favourite and 2013 Africa Cup winner Sunday Mba of Nigeria.
Egyptian Ahmed Fathy completes the final shortlist.
Kalaba, who currently leads the DR Congo top scorers chart on seven goals this season, made the preliminary shortlist after inspiring TP Mazembe to the Confederation Cup final.
The award will be presented at a gala in Lagos on January 9.
