It’s True, We Aren’t Qualified – Local Coaches

By DIANA MUTAKAFIMBO
THE Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) has backed Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya’s stance that local coaches are not yet ripe to drill the national team.
ZAFCA general secretary Chris Tembo said in Lusaka yesterday that Kalusha is right that coaches must have certain qualifications to coach the national team.
“Let us support the idea in the sense that soccer is not only governed by FAZ alone but CAF and FIFA. What the president was trying to explain is that a coach must have certain qualifications to coach the national team just like in the league. All we have to do is support the idea,” Tembo said.
He said Kalusha’s advice to local coaches is timely and that it poses a challenge to coaches to improve on their qualifications.
Tembo said coaching just like any profession needs qualifications and it is important that coaches improve on their qualifications.
“The challenge is now on us to improve on our qualifications. If we take shortcuts, we will find ourselves lagging behind. This is good advice. It is not Kalusha saying but FIFA and CAF,” he said.
Tembo said most local coaches currently do not have the CAF A coaching license.
FAZ is currently conducting the CAF A coaching course which Tembo said is the first in Zambia.
Tembo said Kalusha should not be misunderstood that local coaches are incapable of coaching the Chipolopolo but that they need the required qualifications for the job.
