The National Water Supply and Sanitation Council has approved a 13 percent upward adjustment of water tariffs for all utility firms that applied last year.
NWASCO Communications Manager Rose Tembo disclosed to Hot FM news in an interview that the approved overall average tariff of 13 percent will take effect on 1st February 2014.
Ms. Tembo said the council approved a 10 percent tariff hike for Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company.
She explained that the decision to approve the water tariffs was to enable the utility firms meet their energy, chemical and maintenance costs.

What makes them think that costs alluded to will not go up as well? Managers should begin to start thinking of making their organisations become more cost effective as opposed to pushing prices up. People should learn to treat inflation as an economic demon that should be fought as all cost. The gains made by increasing civil salaries will soon be eroded and they will soon start crying for more increments. Where are the economic advisers? It is time managers are made accountable for failing to turn around their institutions. ZESCO is another case.

Why is water so expensive in Zambia?? where I live in South Africa water is very cheap to free, can you believe I only pay K5 (five kwacha) equivalent per month for unlimited ( un metered) water. is Water really a basic need in Zambia? I wonder…. I feel for you guys there. Water taking about 35 to 40 % of somebody’s salary?? you must be crazy, and you even boast of having plenty of fresh water in the country – SHAME SHAME.

This is the only country where poor service delivery is rewarded. For instance in woodlands extension of Lusaka, 70% of the time there is no water. And you say water is life. Why is the so called NWASCO there? Fire the lot
