I strongly feel 50plus1 is not yet ideal in Zambia. There’s no single party that can have more than 50% in any election. My fear is that we shall be changing governments every term and this will affect development as politicians will always be preocupide with how to return power

Batman, after the first run of elections, the top two go for a re-run and there you will get a 50+1 vote majority like what happened in Liberia.

I am so happy that there are all the freedoms people are enjoying and feel free under the PF Government. Long live HEMCS. he is the man for this Nation.
Now the nation will be turned inside out with infrastructure social economic developement. Very soon, very soon this country will not be the same.
Be there when this country flaurishes because of the bold steps being taken now.
We must not shy away from borrowing solely for infrastructure developement

what mwamba is saying is true with so many political parties taking part in an election and with the scrumble for seats by political parties it is practically IMPOSSIBLE to win an election with an out right majority of 50+1,that is a fact but i feel if this clause is finally implemented lets mobilise enough resources for a run off instead of just dreaming of an outright majority.

Who are always in the majority, the wise or the unwise. Everywhere you go in the world the unwise are the majority. In Zambia we are always ensuring that tribalism does not take its root. To be frank if we allow 50+1 clause the nation will be divided. Already we are seeing that the voting pattern is no longer objective. So when a wise person foresees a problem he acts fast to handle it. Things we know can bring civil strife in the nation should not be allowed in the constitution.
“The unwise are always in the majority.”

I agree with You Mutale. 50%+1 would just turn Zambia into a politicking state. Even the running mate this is not for Zambia for now! Our democracy is at infancy stage. CSOs and others should not take of lacking of understanding of legal implications by many zambians. We know 50%+1 and running mate has caused in our neighbouring countries; it has been chaos! Is that what we want in Zambia! Governance is not just about democracy but also development; and not all democractic tenets are good for Zambia! CSOs and opposition political parties should not mislead Zambians just for the sake of keeping their jobs and appetite to win an election! I wish I cud feature on public platform and argue out my case!!!

one party state is ideal so far, we need development and not just politicking. zambia can record authentic success if we can have a government of no nonsense, giving direction to the whole nation without unnecessary debates and arguments all in the name of politics. ONE PART STATE FOR SURE.

THINGS FALL APART and THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY were NO LONGER AT EASE. Those days we had no cell phones, no internet, ZNBC then ZBS the only tv station only opened at 17 hours, ifyabukaya was the most popular programme on radio, we listened to soccer commentary on radio, we also had IMBILA newspaper.PF, surely, you cannot takes us back to those days. We have the draft constitution. Thanks to the new-age.

We need development not arguments.
Why have two people with such autonomous power

We shouldn’t fear 50+1 as it is possible if not in the first round then the next. Through induced by elections PF has demonstrated that we have the resources to hold a re-run!

PF should learn from history. Simple electoral majority cost MMD the 2011 elections. Mark my words, Mr Kabimba.
