Red Arrows came from behind to defeat Zesco United 2 -1 in the first semi-final of the Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield to set up a final with Nkana who dispatched Nchanger Rangers via a 2 – 0 scoreline in the second semi-final. The semi-final matches were played as a double header at Arthur Davies Stadium.
After a goalless first half Zesco United opened the scoring through Cletous Chota who tapped home Winston Kalengo’s square pass from inside the box.
Red Arrows were given a life line in the 73rd minute when Kelly Sichilya who was inside the box blocked a goal bound effort with his hands and referee Benard Chabala did not hesitate to point to the spot. The resultant spot kick was scored by Adubelo Phiri and eight minutes later Shadreck Malambo scored the second for Arrows.
And goals in each half from Kelvin Mubanga and Francis Kombe were enough for Nkana to overcome the challenge of a new look Nchanger Rangers who had youngsters Larry Bwalya and Emmanuel Phiri in their starting line-up.
Nchanga also gave substitute appearances to three youngsters Patson Daka, Joseph Siame and Fashion Sakala.
Mubanga found the back of the net on 31 minutes while Kombe increased the advantage on the hour mark when he nodded home a cross from substitute Shadreck Musonda.
The 2014 Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield will be played on February 22. Proceeds from the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield are donated by the Republican President to a charity of his choice on behalf of the Zambian football family under the umbrella of the Football Association of Zambia.
